Finally getting a V1!!!!

My wonderful wife and parents finally got tired of hearing me complain about my outdated Passport 7500, and decided to buy me a V1 for my birthday!! At last check, this afternoon, it was in Memphis, and I cannot wait. Is there anything I should know from the get-go about the V1? I read here that there are numerous firmware versions, as well as methods of programming it to best suit my needs, Will I automatically get the newest version? I am also wondering if there is any blanket setting that will get me safely through the "honeymoon period" where I am learning its quirks and such. I will, of course read the manual, I am just wanting to hear y'alls input. Having had my 7500 for six years, I am hoping that I will not have to listen to the V1 as much as the 7500. My wife has a Passport 8500 X50, and I grew up with the original Passport, so I am no stranger to great detectors, I just want to know what I can expect from the BEST of them all. Sooo here I sit waiting, waiting, waiting...Thanks in advance for any help y'all can give me. Sorry for the long post, I am just excited and wondering what to expect. Thanks!

Welcome to the club! You will soon own the very best in radar detectors!! I use to have a RX 65, sold it for a V1. The 3.826 rocks, darn near perfect. It's been said 1000 times before, but once you live with the arrows you can't go back.

You will LOVE this detector!

If Texas doesn't use X band, then disable X immediately! The Valentine one website has a programming guide for this.

Also, you may want to run it on Logic mode(small L) to filter some K alerts.

As you get used to the V1, you can even mute K alerts for a preset time before it goes to full volume. This feature automatically overrides the mute if there is more that 4 bars of an incomming K signal.

Please keep us all aware of your experiences and I'm sure everyone here will help you with your questions.

Congratulations. You're going to like your V1 a whole lot very quickly. You'll get the newest version of everything with yours, and I'd suggest just leaving the settings where they are by default until you've spent some time with it. The most important thing is to learn to take advantage of the arrows and bogey counter and what they are telling you. You can use the V1 for a lot more than "jam on the brakes and avoid a speed trap." A V1 can help you spot LEO's all around you who aren't necessarily a threat YET but might become one. Once you learn how to interpret the V1's warnings, not hard to do, and after the V1 has shown you a few astounding 'finds' you'll realize you have finally gone to the big leagues and there is no going back.

V1's are very good theft targets so keep yours locked up out of sight or take it along rather than leave it in your car to risk getting swiped.

V1 has been the clear top of the heap for 13 or 14 years now, and for good reason. The latest one is better than ever and is also the only unit that gives you a fighting chance against laser by being able to pick up scatter of other laser shots ahead of you. Just take your time and let the V1 show you what it can do. Always remember that no unit takes the place of common sense - but the V1 helps you extend your common sense in ways no other 'detector' can.

Since you are new to the V1, its probably a good idea to initially run in All Bogey's Mode (A Mode). Get to know where the falses are around your town. It will probably be annoying but once you become familiar with your surroundings switch to l (logic) or L (Advanced Logic). Always use A mode on the highway.

It's in!!!! I hardwired it in the Explorer this evening and went on a long test drive in "A" mode. Lots of falses, but it is incredible foggy here tonight, so maybe that's normal...I did get a couple real alerts that were nice to hear, 3/4 of a mile in super dense fog makes me pretty happy. Anyway, thanks y'all for your input, and anything else you may think of, please don't hesitate to post it here for me, a newbie V1 user!

yeah in A you will get a lot of falses

my setting:
X band Off= option 1 arrow down
Auto mute enabled= Option 7 down
Innitially mute K for 30 seconds(default 10 seconds)= B arrow down Cand D arrow up

Unmite when exceeds 4 signal strength

using Logic mode and I am happy with it

I went ahead and ordered the concealed display and put it in last night, which allows me some peace of mind, in that those behind and around me can't see the V1 at night, not that I don't want anyone to sponge off my RD, but because if one knows detectors, they know the look of the V1 and it then becomes more of a target. I also like the stealth location of the concealed display. so, long story short, count me as one of the converted, I will never go back to not having arrows again!!

The remote display is great. It's the only one that I know of that duplicates the entire main unit's display. Also driving at night with the V1 lit up on the dash, it (like any detector) is noticeable including to LEO's driving behind you. With the remote display, the main unit stays dark and is virtually unnoticeable. I like that.

And the arrows are great too. Just wait - they're going to really amaze you sometimes. They (and the bogey counter) are two reasons I have never considered leaving the V1 for anything else for 13 or 14 years now.
