Excellent couple of vid's there, mate.Thank you for re-posting them.
Couldn't help but notice how many ramp-up LED's you got even when you were within very close proximity to the vehicle.
I believe those are horizontally polarized & very low-power after viewing that.

You wouldn't happen to have also made a video w/ the V1 on it's side in that location, did you ?

If you mount the on its side you will gain a bit of distance detecting the polarized radar however you will have a greater chance of missing long distance O/I of normal police radar. Also to boot you will lose that amazing V1 ramp up. The V1 is also design to be mount bottom flat and not on it's side, whats going to happen to the internals after of years of vibration on its side.... I know finicky but hey.

You tell um lot of truth white man. Not think um vibration problem of running on side. Very smart noggin !

Sorry don't have video of the V1 on it's side v's these mobile van radar units. but have played around with it thou and I can confirm the V1's get more distance on it's side. I know these radar vans run about 24.100 GHz thanks to my old redline which has been sold. I'm pretty sure the radar units to be redflex mobile radar which run a very narrow low power vertically polarized beam at 22.5 degrees across the road. It's been a while since I last look at the spec on them but from memory I think I'm correct. My wife tells me when I'm wrong I should go check with her lol. I'll try to get some V1 on it's side action and post it when I can.

Can we cut to the quick ?
Specifically, list the damages caused by vertical mounting from vibrations that you postulate will result from doing so !

that is the thought ghz had and it may be valid as the V1 was no doubt put through a shake table on it's x axis and was never tested on the Y this way.

but one may be able to mitigate these vibrations with just very careful packaging and vibration damping of the detector

    damages? if you don't ?

any component that sticks out of the PC board far enough to move up and down in a way it wasn't tested for !

^ C'mon, cut the b.s. here & be realistic...those kinds of g-forces just don't exist (even on a bumpy road) on a vehicle in the real world.
Well, maybe if you took your shock absorbers off, or ...hit a brick wall at 50mph...in that case, you'd be more worried about your body breaking than the RD.

You ever seen the inside of RD's ?
There's nothing "sticking up" ,small discrete components & SMD's flush mounted to the PCB w/ everything soldered in place. All in all a very rigid construction.

actually there are enough components that stick off the board that this may be a problem. I am pretty well sure mike tested the v1 prototypes on a shack board too.
