Default So far...Im not impressed with Valentine Research

Great forum here. I have been researching RD's for a few months before I finally took the plunge to buy one. Well I called V1 last Monday to order a refurbished detector. They kept telling me over and over that they didnt have any and that it might be months before they get one. I kept telling her that was fine and to go ahead and place me down for one; so she reluctantly did. She said she would have someone call once it was about to ship out. Well, no later than 3 hours after I place my order I get a call saying that it will ship out that day through UPS ground. UPS is a 2 day shipment to my location so come Saturday when I didnt have it I began to wonder where the hell it was. So i called this morning and the lady told me there was some kind of crediting error (I was originally charged full price before I told her to change it to a refurb) and she said because of that credit there was some kind of accounting error that prevented the refurb unit from going out. They have also charge the full price to my card and have yet to credit it back...so now I have a 405 charge and a 365 charge on my credit card for a detector I have yet to recieve.

Im leaving tomorrow for a road trip and wanted the detector for that trip however it doesnt look like I will have it. Think I can get them to eat the charge for overnighting the thing?

Anyone else have such a bad experiene with just the shipping? Anyone ever complained and gotten something for free? Say a carry case or remote display? Thanks...Sorry for my first post being a vent.

Customer service has been great with me, then again I never bought refurbashed unit or tried to get anything free from them. Why don't you just wait till you get the V1 before you decide if you're impressed or not. When buying the V1 wouldn't you be dealing with a sales person anyways? And don't they all suck when they don't get a bigger sale versus a smaller one? Talk to a technician when you have a real problem with the RD and then ask yourself if Valentine Research is up to spec.

It was nice that they recognized the screw up. Sounds like an isolated incident. I would not be to judgmental. Accounting errors and billing errors happen all the time. Hope once you get your V1 it serves you well.

No doubt I will love the unit once I recieve it. I have used my fathers in the past. Im just frustrated about the shipping and billing errors. When I asked her when the 405 charge would be credited she said that she didnt know and told me that the law says they have 30 days to credit my card. Perhaps I just caugh a salesperson on a bad day. I am in a job where I am on the phone almost constantly and I know I go through phases where I just cant stand to pick up the phone.

No Kidding...so much for trying to save money on a refurb. I have no doubt they will credit my card without a problem. Just didnt like the way she was handling things. What kind of answer is "the law allows us...."

Oh well. Looking forward to hearing back from them. They are suppose to call me and let me know once they fix the error and can ship it out.

I hate to say "I told you so" but I have said numerous times on this board that they say that to get you to buy a new unit. I brought a "refurb" ya sure and paid $359 or whatever it is. Thing was brand new. This just proves my point once again. They will try their best to get you to pay full price but will take a sale anyway they can get one.

Did you hear this air? Please don't hate me, just trying to help you friend.
