I really do miss the Expert display of the X50 big time. With that display, I could easily see what was normal and what was not and see signal strengths of each individual threat. The Bogey counter is better than nothing, but since I'm still getting used to it, I have to look at it a bit longer and decode what is being displayed (mainly due to the fact my arrows and bogey counter go nuts when I'm within 0.5 mile of an area with 2 or more automatic doors).
Also, in areas I used to get 2 falses with my X50, I get 4 to 6 with the V1 even though there really are only 2 falses. It gets really annoying when sometimes I drive by and I get 4 falses, then other times I get 5 or 6. Disabling POP cures this and I only get 2 falses like there should be.
Sound wise, I like the V1 better, I like the audible alert you here when another threat is sensed, but it also is anoying when I'm at the grocery store and the bogey counter is randomly cycling from 3 to 9 bogeys 1000000 times a second.
My X50 falsed maybe 5 times from random unknown sources the whole time I had it. NEVER had a Ka False, and had the usual X and K falses from known falses consistently distance and number wise. My V1 seams kinda random at times. I have gotten 1 laser false (No laser in the area I was in) and numerous X and K falses. I get the occasional Ka, but not bad. The X falsing is soooooo horrible I disabled X band (Although I feel I shouldnt have to).
Distance and sensitivity wise, I am not impressed with the V1. I have my unit just below the rearview mirror with the mirror shoved all the way up to the headliner. So far this has given the best results. I had the unit to the left of the mirror for a while, but my arrows and bogey counter seamed to freak out whenever I got near any false sources. With the unit below the mirror, it is only 1 inch lower than it was before and I used a level to make sure the unit is level.
I had a Ka coming towards me yesturday and got an estimated .3 miles of range from initial alert to where I thought the LEO would have been. The v1 didnt go full tilt until I was about 50 feet away form the LEO.
Today, I was in an area with 2 known falses @ 25 MPH (my V1 shows 3 to 5 in this area with POP on) and my bogey counter went nuts as usual and my signal strength was 1 to 3 units. I passed this area but my V1 still showed 2 for K band strength. I look up and saw a LEO 50 feet in front of me on the side of the road pointing his gun straight at me (only car in the road also) and my V1 never showed more than 2 units of signal strength and quickly dismissed this about 25 feet after I passed him.
Last night, I was in town in an area known for constant on Ka. My X50 would sense the LEO about .5 to .6 miles away on this stretch of road going towards it and about .3 miles going away from it. There is always a LEO there at night using constant on Ka, but I didnt figure there was one there last night because my V1 did not go off until 0.2 miles away. I figured he was using instant on instead, so I went back and waited till a train of cars were in front of me for about 1 mile, I went down the same stretch and didnt receive anything till .2 miles again. I went back the way I came this time and got the Ka about .1 miles behind him going towards him and I got about .3 miles of range going away from him..... Also, even with the Ka on more responsive, my signal strength didnt ramp up until I was close enough to the LEO to see the donut sprinkles on his shirt. I repeated the test several more times with different programmed settings and I got similar results. Turning POP on and off only reduced false alerts on my way home, didnt do squat for range.
I'm hoping I'm just getting poor test scenarios for the V1, but so far my V1 is less than par distance and sensitivity wise to my old Cobra 9300 which also falsed much less on X and K.
I'll give it another week, hopefully I can get some good results. I know Valentine doesnt have so many strong supporters due to poor range and false alerts. The display confusion will be solved with time, but the distance thing is really troubling me to the point where I dont feel safe going 5 MPH over anymore and really isn't that what I paid $400 for?
EDIT: Adv Logic mode solves a lot of my X and K problems, but with the X50, I could leave it on Highway all the time and not be overly annoyed. Also all the scenarios listed above where on flat straight roads with no hills, curves, or dips. I have yet to have a highway encounter with the v1, my x50 in same location would give 1 to 3 miles of warning
