    Default V1 and Heat

I have my V1 hardwired above my rearview mirror. It sits in the blue tint band, but aims through the windshield right below it.

I live in an area where it reaches over 100* during the summer months. Even today when it is 68* and sunny, my V1’s metal case gets pretty hot. I know it gets even hotter inside the car than outside. Is it OK to leave it in the windshield when its sunny and hot like that?

I have two V-1's that never leave the windshield and its been that way for years in like summer conditions and its never been a problem.

We were in Vegas last July, and on many days, the V1 was literally too hot to touch, so it stayed on the windshield mount until it got below 100F, y'know, like midnight.

I'm not exaggerating. Some nights the low was all of 92F. Erk.

Doesn't seem to hurt it. I'm sure it's not getting much above 170F, which is pretty warm for us humans but not killer for electronics. Also, my POS is sans tint band, so it gets full sun.

its best to remove your V1 when parked in the sun. it will also increase the lifespan of your V1. heat is the enemy to electronics.

    operating -4 to +158 f
    storage -22 to 185 f

Think if it was made from plastic it would melt but still work
Like anything if you leave it in direct sun and heat for long periods of time
it will shorten it's life (heat up cool down heat up etc). Even on a cold day the shell gets pretty hot.
Thats why i think when people test them they should be warmed up to operating temp not just turned on then tested turn off next detector. My stereo sound best when hot  .

And here is their official response:
    Dear Sir:
Yes, even though the V1 can get warm to the touch, it should not be a problem. And the heat won’t bother it, either. We’ve been selling V1’s since 1992 and they have been in the hottest temps you can imagine, not just in Florida, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico but also in the Middle East.

Heat is not an issue for the V1.

    Cordially,

    Pete Kaufman

...except it'd cost $800 and be built with 30-year-old technology.
