Yeah, I'm betting you got a unit that was unusually insensitive by manufacturing variance....

LIDAR guns are stationary, and have one or two optical lenses on them (reminds you of those telescopes where you put quarters in). They need to be aimed carefully, so you'll see a cop holding it to their eyes, carefully aiming/squinting at traffic. Actually at times it looks pretty silly
