Default Has anyone tried out the new Whistler XTR series?

Has anyone tried out any of the Whistler XTR series detectors? What are your experiences with it?

Nope but I'm wondering if they have any performance boost over the "older" 2004 RDs?

From the manual with the XTR425 and XTR560 you can now choose which bands you want to turn off completely and they include Ku now. Support for their Intelli-cord, plus an audio out jack for either headphones or a speaker.

Would be interested in some test results with the 560 at least!

I believe Roy's 2006 tests include the XTR series. If i recall they are almost as powerful as the Pro series.

So what is the point of the XTR when the pro's are now less expensive?

More features!!! almost the same performance as the pro series. I frankly dont need all that crap i want a functional radar detector that is reliable and provides good performance, and that is exactly what the Pro 73 delivers. http://www.radarbusters.com/support/product-tests/2.asp

I asked whistler about the difference between the pro 73/1793se and the xtr detectors. They basically stated that sensitivity was better in the 1793 chassis (pro 58 & 73, 1793se) but the xtr had ku. So, the xtr is more geared towards places with KU. Also, the XTR425 and 560 allow to disable bands, while only the 1793se allows for this feature.

Filtering is supposed to be the same. So, in summary, for performance the pro 58 / 73 and 1793se are better performers

    Default XTR560 on its way!

I have an XTR560 on its way. Was going to purchase a 1733 for the battery feature but after a brief chat with Whistler they recommended the XTR series.

This will be replacing my 20 year old Bel XKR which worked ok for years but now not picking up the new radar units and I have already located the Walmart so no need to keep it.

Picked the XTR560 over the pro 73 because I was told it will give less false readings. Who knows, but I am quite sure it will be much quieter than my Bel which barked at everything.

I've run without a radar detector for years. Here in NC you got to be really moving to get pulled over and the speed limits are very generous. What would be a 35MPH up north is 55 down here. So really no need to speed and plan to use mine only on long hwy trips. Cops around here know me, when I'm going too fast they usually wave for me to slow down and then waive hello. Yes, it's a friendly town. :-)

Will post my opinion of the unit when it gets here. Really wanted to buy from Roy. I appreciate all the information and research on his site but found the price considerably less from another authorized dealer so had to go with them. I certainly hope I don't have any issues with it.

I got one on Christmas(XTR-325) and I've only had 1 encounter(also Christmas) with what I thought was POP but everyone here seems to think was IO.

Anyways, I't gave me at least 20 sec. of warning. So I'm happy so far.

I LOVE having city2 mode Eliminates tons of falses.

    More later.

Default First Encounter 20 minutes after install

Had my first encounter with my XTR560 today just 20 minutes after connecting it up.

K band radar was in Highway mode

Driving to work narrow road speed limit 55 (yes I live in the country)

Comming up to a left curve, Slight hill to the left not much. Horse field to the left of me, tobacco field to the right. I was driving about 52 when I got a K alert just 3 seconds before seeing a state trooper coming toward me around the curve.

My first thoughts were gosh this is pathetic! But then realized that since we were at 120 degrees off and there were no metal objects for his radar to reflect off his signal must have passed in front of me until we started to merge.

I estimate abt 1/4 mile warning.

(Wish I could run the Bel and the XTR at the same time)

Not much warning time on a 55MPH road. This meant we were closing on each other at about 105MPH and around a turn.

Kinda neat hearing the female voice saying "K Band Alert" then the beeps.

But was not nearly as attention getting as my old Bel XKR that would have done a few loud brasps. Nevertheless, worked as expected. Not as many falses even in highway mode as my old 20 year old Bel but that is to be expected.

Will try and get some range test comparison tomorrow if I see a cop I know.

It would seem that K band is nothing like the range I used to get when they run X band.

Whistler has too many products that cover the same territory...
