    Default Just bought a whistler Pro-58 Have a few Q's

    First off, I have been reading this forum for a little while and have purchased a pro-58 to replace my cobra radar detector.

    I was wondering if anyone knows for sure if having POP on or off is preferred for reducing falsing. I have read on this forum differing opinions.

    How do you turn POP on/off, I thought the 'P' was for "pulse"

    When it auto power-off, I have to hit the power button to turn it on again? My old and much more inferior was able to sense that split second -12v then +12v when the car turns on and turn back on... what gives?

    ..::SIDE NOTE::..
    I have also noticed that this radar detector is EXTREMELY quiet compared to my old one. I have added a PC Speaker to it and have it mounted upside-down basically right over my head on the windshield by the visor. This helps a little but if I can't hear it then what good is it's superior detection over the cobra?

    I will give it a go for a while and see if I like it...

    Thanks for the help in advance. Late.

    POP ON will reduce falsing (ironically), but POP OFF will increase falsing at a minimal increase in detection sensitivity.

    The directions for disable pop have been posted here many times... it has to do with holding a button down during bootup.

    And if it's "extremely quiet", this may indicate an issue with the detector. The pro-58 may be quieter than some other detectors, but it is still deafening on its highest setting and if you have trouble hearing that, then you might want to get a hearing test ;-)

    While there is no doubt that i will most likely be deaf by the time i am 30, this one is pretty quiet. I was more or less wondering if this is normal because if it is then I will keep this one and if not I will send it back.

    Also, if by deafening you mean annoyingly honking etc. then you are correct. However, I still have trouble hearing it over moderate music levels.

    Thanks for your input on POP though

    I also just purchased the Pro 58...quick question how are you guys mounting it? When i mount it the detector weighs down the bracket/suction cups and causes the detector to point upwards....i pulled the power cable and that causes it to face straight out but how are you guys fixing this? Seems the suction cups have alot of tension and allow the detector to flop down pointing up.

    I bent the bracket so it kinda looks like this < and then the weight makes the detector sit even with the road
