    Default First Impressions: Pro-58

These are just first impressions of the Pro-58. I'll write a more detailed review later on when I have more experience with it.

Got to drive around tonight with the Pro-58(along with the X50 and 995). Almost no traffic. Decided to do a comparision run against a K band speed sign. The Pro-58 initally alert to K at 121.0 miles on my odometer. It stopped for a little while, then started alerting continuously at 121.4. The speed sign was located at 122.0.

BTW, the results were as follows:
    Pro-58, 1(0.6?) mile detection
    X50, 1.3 miles
    V995, 1.3 miles

Received a couple Ka hits, one a half mile with him oncoming.

I do like the fact that the tones aren't overly annoying, though they are somewhat quiet. This is good for people that normally have other people in their cars and don't want to annoy them.

I was kind of dissapointed when, approaching that same K band sign form the other side(there are two of them facing opposite directions) instead of giving a K alert, it gave me a Ka alert all the way through. It started off as K, but then quickly turned to Ka. At first I was like "Damn, that is one long as Ka hit" but then I realised it was the K sign.

Going to post up a video of the run later, after I get some sleep :P

You weren't running them at the same time were you? That degrades the X50s range....

Nope. One at a time, at least in those runs. Later on in the night I ran with both the Pro-58 and the X50 on. Every so often the Pro-58 would give an alert on K band(coming from the X50.)

    Here's the videos.

Good to see some Pro-58 video, Elvato! My father owns this RD and I think it's a better RD than people give it credit for. I am working on shooting some video with my 73 and his 58, but every run I make I am unable to find a leo!

    I'll keep you posted!

That answers a question for me. I thought I'd seen X50s set off my Pro 73 before.

Yea, I'm trying to see how much the lower end RDs I have access to (the V965 and hte Pro-58, both just bought for my parents) compare to higher end units like my X50 and my roomies V995. Trying to get some videos together so that first time people can see how much difference in performance there is in lower cost units, and so they can decided if they want to shell out the extra bucks for the difference.

Awesome idea. The videos you did give some good "real world" insight on how each of the three worked.

If you do the testing as equal as possible I think it would be a good sticky in the video section.

Try to get a V1 so you can see the 2 mile + range!

If only I would have had the money... :?
My dream is to become like some of the "ballers" in here that have all of the top 4(5?)

I buy them new from the manufacturer, try them, then sell them on eBay. I keep them in mint condition so I get a good return and the buyer gets an almost new unit at a discount.

Right now I am using the 9500i mostly because of the new GPS feature.

If the V1 incorporated GPS... Man, there would be nothing better. If you can afford it.
