    Default Whistler XTR-585

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm from Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I just bought a new Whistler XTR-585 from Costco to replace my old Bel 730i detector, which didn't save me from a ticket along the Coquihalla last year. It worked well past Merritt with one save on Ka, but got lasered close to Kelowna.

I can't find any info on the XTR-585. Closest I could find is the XTR-560, which I wonder if it is the same model? Secondly, how is the laser detection performance on it? So far, the K and Ka band performance has far exceeded my old Bel.

What's the best laser defense against the lasers here in Vancouver on a dark van with a black grill and large headlights. I know the veil can help. Will it?
Anybody here has any experience with it??

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply on this.. One last question. Is the XTR-585 built on the same platform as the 690 or the DE 1788?

It is not built on either of those platforms.

It is more similar to the 1793SE

    Thanks for the info..

Also Mike, is the Intellicord that came with this unit works with all Whistler detectors including the 690/Pro 78 or just the XTR-585?? I really love having the ability to remote control some of the detector's features by not reaching for the buttons on the detector and if I do upgrade to a better detector in the future, I wish to continue using it assuming Whistler supports this remote feature on their latest detectors?

Last but not least, does the 3 city modes on the XTR-585 effect the detection range of the K and Ka band? Will it effect Ka instant on when I'm in either city modes? The reason I'm asking is that, here in Vancouver BC, I got hit twice with Ka IO in the city but twice were on Highway mode then. X band falses are very annoying in H mode driving in the city, so I want to make sure that if I'm in city 2 mode, it's so quiet that I want to make sure the thing is working and I'm not giving up on Ka detection range.

    Thanks in advance!!

The Intelli-cord will work with all Whistler models that are advertised as Intelli-cord ready.

Yes the Pro-78 and XTR-690 are intelli-cord ready.

Glad you like the Intelli-cord features.

None of the City modes alter the K and Ka sensitivity or IO.

Hey Mike, are you guys in talks with Costco to introduce the XTR-690 or Pro-78? I love shopping at costco (I got my current Whistler from there), and it would be cool if they carried Whistler's new flagship detectors. It's kinda disgraceful to see RMR units and low-end XTR's and such being displayed on their website.
