So I finally found where I wrote down all my encounters on my trip.
Like I said the XTR-690 preformed great and saved me multiple times.
Settings the entire trip were....Highway/Filter 1/POP OFF/SWS ON/Mounted High
MN:
:!: No encounters
IA:
:!: No LEO encounters on the way out.
:!: On the way back I did get a ticket from IO KA, 84 in a 70. One of the few times I was speeding more the 10 over PSL without a rabbit. It was also getting dark, and without a rabbit I was screwed. I guess you live and learn!
NE:
:!: ~1.5 mi KA band speed sign..............there was a small downhill before the sign
:!: ~1.4 mi X band speed sign................slight left turn before sign
:!: ~1.4 mi X band speed sign................slight turn and small hill before sign. This sign was in a construction zone (1 lane each way) and I got a ~.8 mi alert going the opposite direction on the way back.
:!: ~2 mi KA speed sign on the back of a line painting truck. The distance was from time of first alert. It is probably a little less since the truck was moving ~5-10mph, and I was going ~60mph.
:!: ~.4 mi KA speed sign........hill and a turn before the sign.
I also got a ton of K-band construction drones going thro Omaha.
I never actually picked up an confirmed LEO in NE just speed signs.
CO:
This is where I had all 3 of my saves on the trip.
:!: ~0.5 mi K band CO..........residential I got the alert before going up a decently sized hill and the LEO was coming towards me as I got to the top of the hill.
:!: Laser hit on a HWY near Denver ~1800ft if I had to guess. I wasn't speeding and was in the far right lane out of 3, so I find it hard to believe he was targeting me.
:!:SAVE ~ 1.2 mi KA band IO.......highway I got a weak 2-3 bar alert for a few seconds that dropped off. I was doing ~13 PSL. There was a HUGE downhill ahead and while going down I saw LEO going opposite direction.
:!: SAVE ~0.8 mi K band IO..........highway going about ~15 over PSL. There was uphill from the time I got the 4 bar alert until I saw LEO going opposite direction.
:!: SAVE ~2.4 mi K band CO...........this was BY FAR the best save. I was taking some Colorado back roads getting to my destination and was enjoying the rolling hills and swooping curves. PSL was 65 and I was going 85-90. I hadn't seen a car in about 30 min. I was going down a hill into a swooping left turn and I got a K-band alert that lasted for about 2 seconds. I slow down to PSL and continue about two more swooping turns. The last turn goes up a slight hill and as I enter the turn I get a K-band alert of 3 bars which ramps up quickly as I round the corner and see an LEO coming towards me!
So those were pretty much all my encounters! I reiterate that I was very happy with the performance of the XTR-690, it worked great!
An instance like this with IO was one of my few tickets. Good thing he was running CO.Originally Posted by Silverstreak98
In calculating your distances against the radars moving toward you, did you factor in their movement?
Yea I did factor in their movement, but its still just an approximation.Originally Posted by Stealthcb
No kidding, I would have gotten owned. Definitely would have exited that turn going about 80 or more.Originally Posted by pkquat
how stupid can you be going that fast without a rabbit. I mean its a radar detector not a cop detector. IO should not be held against the pro or xtr 690. In a situation with no rabbit and IO. Even the best radar detector in the world isnt gonna save you. IO is more deadly then laser bar none. I fear IO more then anything. Also you could have really used a CB on your long trip. That LEO was probably already spotted. If your buy yourself on the road and its dark or getting dark dont do anymore more then 5 or 6 over. Anymore then that your just asking for it.
It's hard to find rabbits these days that travel 15+ over.
Well if their are no rabbits going 15 plus then you probably shouldn't go 15 plus either. Sometimes traffic speeds can vary especially if a saturation patrol has occured just recently. Try to leave early to make up time. Dont try to speed to make up time. I'm all for going down the highway fast. But knowing when and when not to do it is important. Hills tend to be 90 + percent of where most speed traps occur. So its always a good thing to not go to fast when going over hills.
Well I was literally in the middle of nowhere, I had seen 1 other car in the last hour.
