Default Pro 78 audio not working

Could this be a result of a blown speaker?

Could be, first reset the unit.

I believe you do this by:

First unpluging the power cord from the detector

    Hold down the CITY button

Plug the power cord back in while still holding down the CITY button.

It will show the revision and I believe reset the unit.

If the audio still doesn't work its most likely the speaker. If that is the case I would send it to Mike B, he should be able to help you out.

To reset the unit you must hold in the Power button and the Quiret button, then plug in power.

The display will say FACTORY RESET

I reset it this morning. After testing it with a k-band source, the audio worked for a brief while. I had the volume set at 1. When it reached full alert, the speaker would start crackling and cut off. Could the problem be in the wiring to the speaker?

No. This sounds like the speaker's voice coil is rubbing against the magnet. Whistler will send you a new speaker for free, and it is a no-brainer to install it. You should be able to replace it in about 5 minutes, and no soldering is required. All you will need is a small Phillips screwdriver.

What other RD companies will be willing to send you a new speaker for free if it goes out like Whistler does?

Same thing happened w/ the speaker on my 78. Out of nowhere it started cutting out and when it worked it sounded messed up. Now the sound doesn't work at all. At least I get an alert from the LEDs, but I don't catch the alert as fast with those. Mike B. was a great to work w/ on the phone and I am currently waiting for a replacement speaker. I'm hoping that it solves the problem.

BTW, from what I've been told it's an easy install. Does anyone have a picture of the inside of the 78? I wanna see how it looks before I open it. Thanks.

Speaker came. Easy to install. Works 100% again. Thanks Mike B!
