    Default Next Whistler product wishlist

If there was one detector company that I felt listened to users at this level, it would definitely be Whistler. I'm sure their team is full of great ideas for upcoming products, but as a Whistler customer I'd like to weigh in on some options I'd really like seeing. I don't know if Mike and co would benefit from hearing from us on our wishes, but here goes nothing:

    (1) A bit more attention to X/K. The only flaw I have to point out with the XTR-690/Pro-78 platform is that it DOES confuse X and K, in the real world, with real police encounters too. In particular, it may display X as K, or vice versa. Worse, in City 2 mode / X OFF, I had one suspected incident where it refused to alert to a K-band speed sign. K-band is still popular these days and it'd be better to have an individual sweep if possible.

    (2) Configurable alerts for each band. I find myself at times liking particular tones but they are all in different TONE settings. This is probably a simpler UI thing to implement.

    (3) Better POP alerting interface. Since POP increases the false rate of detectors, I think POP alerts should be less intrusive/urgent. POP should have its own dedicated tone that's soft and more of a FYI than a critical warning sort of thing. Maybe just a polite double-beep and a POP voice.

    (4) Quiet / Auto Quiet / City Mode should sound all-clear a few seconds after an alert terminates. I often have to stare at the detector once in a while wondering if an alert is still there (the periscopes DO help). The muted modes should give a single alert tone for (1) the start of an alert (2) The pulsing of an alert (exit and then reentry at different strength/frequency) (3) A very significant change in signal strength (if the alert was muted at 1 bar and is now at 8 bars, some audible alert should be given) (4) The end of an alert. The VG-2 alert on earlier Whistlers did sound an all-clear, probably because VG2 alerts lasted so long. Nowadays with enhanced detection capabilities, it's not at all abnormal for radar alerts to persist for upwards of minutes.

I think that's all the feasible things on my mind right now...

A Pro 78 in Red display and grille. Would fit better in BMW's with all red interior lights

Extra Euro mode to improve Ka band photoradars detection - Multanova and Ramet AD9. Now it's still insufficient.

    Red display for Pro78.

    More slim casing.

    Default Whistler wish list

MP3 player, surround sound, GPS capabilities, Internet hookup, Blue tooth phone compatible and the ability to turn invisible when not in use to thwart thieves.

Ok, so maybe I've gotten carried away, but a bogey counter would be very nice.

red led screen and led periscope for the pro 78 with red grille and writing. or simply just selling the red led screen with an instruction manual to those who already own a pro 78. if you add the new features it would retail for the same price

temperature meter, perhaps with a plug in for an exterior antenna, but it would atleas show the current temperature of the unit

compass on the red pro 78

    volt meter

total bogey hit count. showing the total amount of alerts you have recieved on every band, resets when you clear the memory. just so we can keep track of how many times we had alerts for sure on a long road trip

how about instead of saying highway all the time it would have a setup something like the led grill from nightrider

Mike B. please give us a multiple threat display!!!

Here is why- Yesterday I was driving on a divided 4-lane highway and received a K-band alert so I checked my speed and got to the PSL of 55. About 0.8 miles later I passed the LEO driving in the opposite direction running constant on K. So that was a 1.6 mile save in my book!

Well, everyone got comfortable thinking that the threat had passed, and started speeding back up. I never did because my alert still hadn't gone away, so I held back a little just to be safe. Luckily I did because up a hill and around a slight bend, anoher LEO was in the median just waiting for that scenario to play out in his favor!!!! Zapping people with K-band. He snagged a customer from the pack I had been riding along with.

I'm sure the LEO's had set it up that way in an effort to defeat detector users and the people who just got lucky going by the first LEO. So the multiple threat display would have been a huge help in this encounter for sure.

Dumb luck saved me from a possible ticket, now if Whistler could help by giving one more piece of the technology puzzle to thier customers that would be excellent!

A multi threat display would only have done you some good if both radars were at least 14Mhz different and both seen by the radar detector at some point of the encounter otherwise they would have been seen as 1 bogy.

If the siganl from the 1st LEO that passed you had ended (internally) just as the 2nd LEO was detected, your bogy count would still be at 1 even if they were seperated by more than 14MHz.

The general rule of thumb is, if your unit is still alerting there is a reason

    Arrow Totally agree..

Totally agree that if it's still alerting there is a reason. Although, i have had encounters where it was handy on my v1. So is it useable. Yes, it can be. Depend totally on it? NO. It can be a little off the wall at times. Would it be neat to see whistler add such a feature YES. Although just do me this one favor whistler and MR. B. if you do, don't make it so i'm staring at two or three little lines. Thats my only beef if you do, do this.

Well I guess in my encounter above is when the V1 and the arrow blinking to the strongest source would be the answer, whether it indicated 1 bogey or multiple bogeys-
