If there was one detector company that I felt listened to users at this level, it would definitely be Whistler. I'm sure their team is full of great ideas for upcoming products, but as a Whistler customer I'd like to weigh in on some options I'd really like seeing. I don't know if Mike and co would benefit from hearing from us on our wishes, but here goes nothing:
(1) A bit more attention to X/K. The only flaw I have to point out with the XTR-690/Pro-78 platform is that it DOES confuse X and K, in the real world, with real police encounters too. In particular, it may display X as K, or vice versa. Worse, in City 2 mode / X OFF, I had one suspected incident where it refused to alert to a K-band speed sign. K-band is still popular these days and it'd be better to have an individual sweep if possible.
(2) Configurable alerts for each band. I find myself at times liking particular tones but they are all in different TONE settings. This is probably a simpler UI thing to implement.
(3) Better POP alerting interface. Since POP increases the false rate of detectors, I think POP alerts should be less intrusive/urgent. POP should have its own dedicated tone that's soft and more of a FYI than a critical warning sort of thing. Maybe just a polite double-beep and a POP voice.
(4) Quiet / Auto Quiet / City Mode should sound all-clear a few seconds after an alert terminates. I often have to stare at the detector once in a while wondering if an alert is still there (the periscopes DO help). The muted modes should give a single alert tone for (1) the start of an alert (2) The pulsing of an alert (exit and then reentry at different strength/frequency) (3) A very significant change in signal strength (if the alert was muted at 1 bar and is now at 8 bars, some audible alert should be given) (4) The end of an alert. The VG-2 alert on earlier Whistlers did sound an all-clear, probably because VG2 alerts lasted so long. Nowadays with enhanced detection capabilities, it's not at all abnormal for radar alerts to persist for upwards of minutes.
I think that's all the feasible things on my mind right now...
