Using FQ in town takes a very tiny bit of attention. Soon it is second nature and a real nice feature IMO. Most people don't want to be bothered I believe.

Occasionally I will try another detector without it just for a try but it gives one so much more info in town between false alerts and police cars that I go directly back to it every time.

also on the road it helps a lot in distinguishing real radar from leaking cobra detectors and store motion detectors in towns that one passes.

It is a very nice feature but apparently not for everyone.

IMHO you are setting yourself up for a ticket. The freq's that may be COMMON for K band openers ARE used by police. Not only that, even if the local yocals don't have ONE SINGLE K BAND gun that is on the same freq, a cop can sit in the same location as a door opener, and if it's signal is stronger, your RD is going to display the freq for the door opener while the second threat goes unnoticed. It is far better to use threatmode which shows you the number of signals, then rely on freq display. It may be a very nominal chance that you'll find something other then a door opener on those freq's in that area, but just look at any 9500i user who has used truelock and a gun near the same 10mhz block got them and since 9500i saw the same freq in the same GPS location, it just didn't alert

Believe me there is enough deviation in frequencies this isn't a problem. A policeman sits in the exact same spot and his radar over-rides the opener? Well then it shows on my display it is different. In fact almost always the differences are HUGE! Even if they aren't they are plenty enough to tell which is which.

One just has to use FD to know what I mean. It does work. Your gps 9500 user. I never used that unit but have heard different versions of that story.

I don't believe I will ever convince you lucky225 no matter what I say. I personally know it works is all.

Police radar does NOT always override a door opener, that was sort of my point. I've operated the SRX in spec mode and seen a REAL police radar freq change to a door opener, vice versa as well, but point is the freq display isn't always going to change, it could show a door opener that has a stronger signal then the police radar and you'd get nabbed.

A police radar unit next to a opener will certainly have more energy then the opener. Always! Also the freq will be different to the police radar. I have never seen it not. You have to realize openers are very limited energy output by law anyway. Their range is very limited compared to police radar. Stand in front of an opener and see how far away you can get before it won't work. It isn't far.

This would be like me doing a rf comparison of my x-band hot wheels gun and a k-55.

You have one.. a different freq then that opener you drive by and 2.) a much stronger signal to boot.

for your scenario to work I would have to be absolutely right next to the door opener with a very few feet and the frequency would have to be exactly the same as the police radar. How likely is that?

depends on the angle in proportion to your radar antenna actually, yes the gun will be stronger, GENERALLY, but it depends on where your detector is mounted, where the door opener is, where the cop is, and your direction of travel.

I never can convince some of you guys it works. Is it perfect. As I said probably not but with IO out there there are no guarantees anymore are there.

I have noticed some take to F/D like a fish to water and some people don't. IMPL I have found it an invaluable feature that I use all the time.

I'm not saying it's not a valid feature, but it is definitely not PERFECT. NO RD is perfect.. RD's are tools, and so is the F/D. Yes, the F/D is a very USEFUL feature, but it is NOT something I would RELY on, you always have to be mindful of your surroundings.
