    Default XTR-695 Lockout Q

Sorry if this has already been answered. On my way to Dallas today the 695 alerted to KA pretty much every 2 miles, it kept getting annoying so I kept pressing mute. Well one time I pressed mute like 3 times and I think I locked out a KA freq? Don't know if that's possible, manual doesn't say KA RSIDs are locked out just LSIDs... In any event then I'd get a KA alert down the road that would just blip and disappear. Have I locked out a KA freq? And if so do I have to factory reset to clear this or is there a diff way?

The 695 does not lockout radar with a press of the Quiet button.

If you feel you have entered some modes accidentally you can go back to the factory default settings by holding the Quiet button and Power button at the same time and then apply 12 volts to the unit via the power cord, wait until you hear 2 beeps and you can release the buttons. It only takes a second or two to complete.

Dallas is loaded with falses. I drove through with pop on (for a test)and it went off about 36 times with pop showing frequently on I-20. I run FILTER 2 before I'm in Ft.Worth/Dallas. There is also like 2 billion Cobras on all major Interstates so i would recommend FILTER 2 POP OFF

I would get a radar detector with "freq display" if I were you. They are invaluable for sorting out false alarm signals from the real thing. After using one in town soon you will be able to tell real police radar from cobra's and store motion detector openers. They do work believe me. One just has to use one's own mind as the "filter"

.....the 695 has an RSID feature to distinguish alerts that are within the specifications of police Ka radar.

As for K band, it is too narrow to determine the difference between police K band and K band door openers so it is not as usefull of a tool in this regard.

RadarGhost, YGBSM!!! Please explain how your "store motion detector openers" theory works. If your own mind is a filter, you should patent and market it. As Mike B stated, the detector in question has a freq display on the only band that is relevant (Ka). BTW what countermeasures do you use?

I personally feel that K band frequency can be a very useful tool in some situations. While it is true that a K band radar gun is certainly in tune at say, 24.075GHz, I rarely, if ever see a police radar gun that far from the center of the K band.

Every police K band radar gun frequency display that I can remember seeing(and I admit that they are not that frequent where I travel) has been within 60 MHz of the center of the K band, which is 24.150 GHz. I'd say that at least 80% of those are +/-25MHz of the center of the K band. That's not to say that if I were to receive a K band radar signal at 24.075 GHz, that I would completely ignore it and immediately blow it off as a false alert, but I would feel confident in saying that this signal is most likely a false alert, while still acting appropriately.

It's my opinion that while I definitely cannot make a complete judgement on whether a K band alert is a false or not based solely on its frequency, I can certainly determine the probability of a signal being a false alert or not, using its frequency as one of the input parameters.

I had a save one time on my SRX where the K band alert sounded a little different than I normally get in a certain spot. I immediately looked down at the SRX's display and while I don't remember what the exact numbers were, I do remember that the displayed frequency was a lot closer to the center of the K band than usual, something like 24.135 GHz as opposed to the usual 24.098 GHz, or something like that. I immediately slowed down and sure enough, there was a LEO running K band radar just past that spot where I normally get a false alert.

I do agree that K band frequency display is surely not as useful as is Ka band frequency display, but there are times when it can be a big help for sure.
