Default Comparing the new Pro78se to the XTR690se

    To all,

I ran a comparison on one of the sites accepting preorders for these new Whistler models. I noticed that the XTR690se has 2 features that the Pro78se does not have. The 690 has the 72 point compass, the vehicle voltmeter, 9 levels of user selectable dimming. The Pro78 has the intense blue display, 3 levels of user selectable dimming and auto dim feature. If you don't have a preference for color, the XTR690se appears to be the better value detector. All other features for both detectors are the same.

I think the most important feature to the buyer will be the display. The other two features are pluses for the 690 though.

I'm going for the 690se for the red display. It matches my red instrument lighting.

Also note the 78se includes the hardwire kit ($10) and a dash pad ($6), while the 690se includes neither.

Interesting. I have an XTR-695 and now an XTR-695SE. I like the compass feature. But I am also very interested in a Pro 78 or Pro 78 SE. I like the blue display.

Meh, I like the fact you can change the backlight colors to match your dash on the 695, it's great for if you change vehicles.
