    Default mounting options?

I know that every RD will be a custom install, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a kind of "universal" mount I could use to attach my RD to my rear view mirror (actually, below it as my windshield has that metallic strip at the top).

I'm getting sick of having to take the RD down off the windshield everytime I park my car overnight, or put up my window shade.

I've seen someone here on the board who used velcro (or similar)...maybe that's an option?

    Thanks,
    Seth

I don't have enough posts to add pics or links to this reply -

I have a couple of pictures of my homebrew mount on my flickr page. My flickr user name is billbam400. It's a simple bracket that attaches to the post of the rear view mirror.

If you have an autodimming mirror, there will be a power cord going to the mirror, almost all of them plug (and unplug) into the back of the mirror. I used an Invisicord to power my detector from the mirror cord, and I used 3M Dual Lock to attach the detector windshield mounting bracket to the windshield (removed the suction cups and put on a couple of strips of the Dual Lock).

This is a link to some pics of the Invisicord installations.

Edit: I don't know if Inviscord works with Whistlers as far as the connectors, but there are some other products out there like it.

The 3M Dual Lock will stick to just about anything. It's like super velcro, your detector will never fall off once you attach it.

    Cool, thanks guys.

Those are great pics, Bill; I'll probably end up doing something like what you have.

Steve- actually, my autodim mirror is factory, so the wiring is all internal up there, but I've already hard-wired my Whistler anyway But I'll checkout that 3M dual lock stuff!

Many of the factory mirrors have an external power cord that actually have clip-in fasteners, kind of like an ethernet cable has, I know my Ford Edge is that way. However, if you've already got the wiring for the Whistler then you're good to go there. The 3m dual lock is good stuff, I think you could actually hang a detector from the mirror with it, but I don't know I'd actually do it.
