Anyone know if anyone has been able to make a manual mute button for the Whistler Pro78 se? I mean a button like the V1...I do not like the lighter plug mute button. I was hoping someone had figured out how the make a direct wire power/mute wire.

Not real clear what you're after, but i'll take stab at it.
The 'Quiet' button will squelch an active audio alert when pressed 'during' the alert.
From the 78SE Owner's Manual:
However, if you want to get rid of the visual alert also, opt for the Whistler Intelli-cord. It can be programed for several menu functions of which squelching an active alert via the Quiet function or Powering Off the detector which i've use a few times myself when a nearby CO Police car alerted my 78SE at night.8. Quiet Button - pressing QUIET before a
signal is detected engages Auto Quiet Mode
which automatically reduces the audio level after
the initial warning to a low audio level setting.
Pressing QUIET during a radar/laser encounter
silences audio alerts, while allowing visual
alerts to keep you informed.
:
What I am looking for is like the Escort direct wire mute cord but for Whistler. Not automute.
The 'Quiet' button has two functions.
1. Before an alert, hitting hit will toggle the RDer in 'Auto Quit Mode' and 'Normal Alert' mode.
2. During an alert, hitting it will mute the audio portion of the alert.
Again, if you want a true remote audio mute function, get the optional Whistler Intelli-cord. Don't know what more to say.

Might take some jury rigging but if i wanted to direct wire the intelli cord, i'd probably first see if it can be disasembled easily. If so, preferably remove if possible the center power contact (+V) and then solder two wires to the + and - contacts inside the intelli module ensuring the internal intelli fuse is still in circuit. Run the wires out of the center contact hole.I do not like the lighter plug mute button. I was hoping someone had figured out how the make a direct wire power/mute wire.
If its not practical to remove the center contact, solder a wire to it and solder another wire on the intelli module's (-V) contact. Then insulate the whole thing well by either sliding a large dia. heat shrink over it or tape it over with electricians tape to avoid it shorting to the car's frame. Then run the two ends of the wires to the car's fuse box.
Of course the warranty would be out the window.
Another easier but messier approach if above won't work for some reason would be to get a lighter socket extender with wires, cut the male socket off, splice on longer wires and run those to the car's fuse block. This would leave one big bulky intelli module/lighter socket assembly to contend with for mounting.
In either case the, intelli module could then be sticky taped or velcro'd anywhere in the car.
I think he's saying he has the intelli-cord, but doesn't like it (i.e. location of cigarette lighter) and is looking more for a hard-wire like install ;

Well i explained how the intelli module can be modified for 'direct wired' instead of it having to be plugged into the cigar lighter socket.
Also another idea which would serve the same purose as the quiet button would be to remotely shut off power to the RDer. Let me explain.
Direct wire the RDer with the direct wire kit. Insert into the + Volt power feed going to the RDer a SPST (on/off) toggle switch. Mount the switch in some kind of box and velcro anywhere in the vehicle.
This would serve the same purpose as pulling the RDer's power plug out of the cigar lighter socket which i have done at night to kill BOTH the audio AND visual alerts from a nearby LEOs.
Yeah i don't much care for all those bulky modules sticking out of the dash board either and once in a while they come loose causing power lost to the RDer and an alert could be missed.
The best solution of course would be for Whistler to come out with more compact direct wire intelli module.
