There is no accurate answer to your question. The detection range of your Whistler can be affected by so many factors such as terrain, LEO tactic (whether it is C/O or I/O), etc. Here are two examples:

Note: to learn more about what C/O and I/O are, read here:

Well just yesterday evening i had one of the if not the best Ka 34.7 alerts to date with my 78SE.

Was on a lonely 45mph country road. I was the only car in sight on this road and was doing the PSL more or less.
    1. Got a short Ka alert with no ID
    2. About 7 seconds later started to get a continuous 1-2 Ka alert with a 34.7 ID
    3. Still no cars in sight front or back
    4. Two miles later was getting a 3-4 alert now
    5. Doing a little under the PSL now
    6. Still no cars in sight! WTF!
    7. Started to think a LEO was hiding in a corn field somewhere ahead?
    8. A few seconds later at about 2.5 miles from 1st alert finally see an approaching car way in the distance ahead, maybe a mile away!
    9. Nahh couldn't get an alert at this distance!
    10. Now at a stop sign that approaching car was becoming clearer
    11. The 78 is screaming a 9 by now
    12. Holy crap, its a County cop.
    13. Finally passed him beyond the stop sign at 3 miles from 1st alert.
    14. Watched him in the RVM to verify his speed. He appeared to be doing the PSL.

Assuming that LEO was traveling at the PSL and approaching, he was at least 2.5+ miles away when i got the first weak alert.
    3 miles + 2.5 plus miles = at least a 5.5 mile Ka 34.7 alert!

    Not using 695SE but 690SE,

Recalled travelling a straight highway with less slope, the 690SE managed to register KA 35.5 not less than 3 kilometers away from source. Sorry no video though.

I have had an 8+ mile alert on my PRO78SE. Same platform as XTR650SE. Optimal conditions in the California desert.

I have had a 9 mile C/O 34.7 from Tx Dps on a high slope in the middle of the median at night with all his lights blacked out.
