After reading the posts here for several days, I looked in the Walmarts in my area and came up empty. I found a deal on EBAY that seemed to good but I went for it. New unit repackaged with all the trimmings plus free shipment for
$48.99. It is my first RD so I am doing all the reading I can to become educated on its use. So far, it seems to be working fine.
I joined the 693SE club today. Only drove it around for about 50 mi. My experience with it so far is slightly different. Got some really strong X band door opener alerts, a couple K band alerts and surprisingly 3 Ka falses without ID's and 3 with Id's (1-35.5 and 2-34.7's) with only one LEO sighted. One K-band alert ramped up typical of oncoming CO then dropped off too. But i was in unfamiliar territory and it might of been a door opener.Quote:

One thing that might be going on other than mfg'ing variance... is that the detector is brand spanking new meaning its in fresh calibration (tuned) versus my old 78se which is over a year old who's calibration might of drifted off slightly.
Can't decide whether i like the red or the 78se blue display better! Gonna wait to see what it looks like in sunlight as it was overcast here today.
I don't know. My 693SE definitely appears more sensitive than my 78se..especially on K band. I will be interested in hearing your follow up in a few days. :)
Just realized today as the sun set, the 693 does not have an auto dim option like the 78.
I'd gladly trade the compass feature for auto dim.
Yeah, I don't get the whole compass thing. I haven't ever used one and don't need one.
I use the voltmeter instead of the compass. I think I tried their compass years ago...had to drive in circles to calibrate it....meh.

The main problem i have with the compass is i have 3 vehicles and am constantly switching RDers from one to another which requires the circular calibration each time. I just gave up on using that feature and rely on my cheezy $1.98 windshield mount compass when needed.
I agree the voltmeter feature is useful once in a while. What would be also usefull is a temporary alert 'menu option' when the RDer senses an average low or high battery voltage. Maybe something like <12V=low alert, >15.5=high alert.
Another voltmeter feature would automatically and temporarily display battery voltage at power-ON after the other settings are displayed. That one would be great too IMO.
It does say low when the voltage drops too low! :) I think the message comes across when the voltage <11v.

Is the low voltage alert temporary or will it stay on as long as the battery voltage remains low?
Looked at the battery monitor section of both my xtr-695 and 693se manuals which makes no mention of a low voltage alert display. H'mmm!
