    Default 1793SE vs PRO 73

Looks like they're about the same price, so any input on which may be better... or are they based on the same platform.

I've recently tried the X50 and the RX65, and I don't know if I'm seeing the 2x $$ difference, which is why I'm looking into these two Whistlers. Any help is appreciated.

I have the pro 73 it works good with K band. The Ka band is not so good it works good if the terrian is flat but were I live there is lots of trees, hills and turns in the roads. I never tried the X50 or the bel 65 so I dont know if there realy worth the price but if I was to by another radar I will try them. I had only One Laser hit and It picked it up very nice. The k band always give me enough time to slow down but Ka I dont feel that way. Some times it surprises me but sometimes I know if I was speeding I would be screwed. It depends on the terrian if its flat and on the highway I feel It will work good but in the city you have to be careful. <How do you think the X50 and Bel 65 would do with the trees and hills and turns do you think you would have lots of warning to get slowed down.> What one did you like the best.

The X50 was defective from the get go, so I was only able to test the RX65. I really haven't seen a whole lot of LEO's yet. I did come across one today that was running KA and I got him from about a mile away and he was down a hill and around a corner, but no trees really in the way per say.

Ya If you want to be safe I would use teh X50 or the bel it will be better but if the money is not there the pro 73 does do the job you will just have to be carefull with the Ka bands but over all it is a good radar. I do get good warnig sometimes with Ka but most times its not much warnig.

In the Austin, TX area, K/KA is about 50-50. So, is there a Whistler which would be considered acceptable, if the 1793SE vs PRO 73 are not?

I previously owned the Whistler 1750. Is the 1793 and pro 73 at least as good as the 1750? I usually am only over the limit by 10... 15 at most (Hwy), so I don't need a lot of room to slow down. an extra 100 yards usually does the trick for me. Would the 1793/73 provide at least this much room?

One thing to consider though is the officer has to establish a visual tracking history. If you press the brake slowly the minute ka goes off you will have more then ample time to slow down. K band is gonna be easy to pick up on most mid to higher end detectors because the spray is allot more. I think on both bands whistler does a d a m n good job. Ka is harder pick up because its very directional. Plus trees and hills and other obstructions will majorly lower any rd pick up. I own a bell rx 65 and a valentine and a pro 73. The pro 73 is probably the one you want. Plus whistler got In my opinion much much better laser pickup then the rx 65 anyday. But I would wait for the whistler XTR series to come out. As this series will probably provide even better detection. If you must get something right now get a pro 73 if you can wait get a XTR.

I agree with u there bfg, the pro 73 has excellent laser detection, i guess you can call it a budget v1 in the laser detection class.

Since the XTR series is built on the same platform as the PRO/1700 upper series I really doubt there will be any performance increase.
But until those are available I really can not say this for sure, but based on the PRO Series vs. the higher end 1700 series the performance has been the same.

Lets see I have been hit by laser numerous times. All times I have been able to pick up and advance warning with whistler. Never got a ticket with my whistler and never got a ticket with a laser gun with my whistler. I do have veil and a laser shield. But that is a must for laser hits. Lets see I also have my RX 65 I have gotten 3 laser tickets so far with it. I decided because of that to give my rx 65 to my grandad. The only time I use my valentine is on trips because the amount of falsing it has. Atleast with whistler I can throw it into city 2 mode. Road trips valetine works miracles.
