Yes, I couldn't live without it!
No, it's a complete waste!
Sometimes, I can take it or leave it.
Yup, whoops!
New, the Bel 995 and the X50 run neck and neck in price.
An old used (but functioning correctly) Bel 985 would be a great option on the cheap and still very sensitive to all radar bands, but hard to come by and does have "threat mode" but not the expert meter.
Was used to the bogey counter on the V1, so I always ran my 9500i/ix in Expert mode. Seemed like the standard mode used up too much real estate for what it did. The audio provides enough information about signal strength, it's the count I wanna see (with varying strength).
I never could get into Spec mode. I guess I never really thought in terms of the frequencies, kind of wish I did sometimes though.
Expert meter as a visual guide is not as useful as advertise, but good nonetheless. Now, the SpecMeter is the Sh1t. With just a glimpse I know the frequency of the emiting equipment combined with understanding the language/sound consistency and intensity of the each beep if a threat is real and it's location in relation to my vehicle. As much as I loved the convenience of having directional arrows, I'll take specmeter any day.
Sometimes I think there's more to be made from collaborations, I can't fathom the crazy sh1t that would come out Valentine and Belscort joining efforts. I'd gladly pay very serious money for a gizmo with both arrows/specmeter, GPS(Speed traps/Etc.) and integradable LIDAR jammers with the likes of Laser Interceptor or Blinder M45.
I run SPEC mode mostly as it's easy to identify Ka falses.......and.....if you keep an eye on it, it's also somewhat effective at identifying a 2nd source if the frequency shifts. This is the main reason I returned my 9500ix in exchange for the older 9500i model...........in spec mode under 20mph there are no audio alerts on the 9500ix (after the initial alert) and you can't tell anything about signal strength. I like to know at all times if the LEO is closing in or moving away from my location!
I followed a sheriff for several miles one day and kept seeing a momentary frequency shift going under bridges or passing large signs............when I pulled up next to him at a light I found out why........he had one of the new DSR 2X units with both front and back antennas running simultaneously!
Expert is also a good choice and I like running in this mode mainly in town where the LEOs tend to congregate and cross paths on patrol.
Does ANYONE run standard alerts these days .
