    Default Peterbilt installs

Is there any site or forum link to where there would be some good photo examples of Peterbilt STI installations. I purchased mine last night. I intend on designing a special "bracket" for a lack of better terms which will attach to my dash and extending towards the rear of the cab about three inches from the overhand of the rear of the dash. This will keep it off of the dash and from the weigh station I don't think they will be able spot it at night at all and it would be hard as hell to see what it is during the day. I will post pics after I am done.

The thread here regarding serial numbers and software versions has me worried, as the unit I bought was the last one in stock and it was a "display model." That doesn't mean a whole lot, he could have sold the last display model a week ago for all I know and "refreshed" the stock. But, I will check the numbers in a few hours when I start my custom install.

Welcome to the board. Why dont' you just pull it down and pocket it when you pull in a weight station?

Pulling it down as I enter a weigh station? Sound easy doesn't it? That is what I want to do, however I need two things from an installation. Stealth while driving down the road which means keeping it out of the windshield. Second thing I need is the ability to quickly detach and stick it in my "private place" somewhere in the truck.

The windsheild mount is made for a car and cannot be bent enough to use, so that idea is out. The velcro? Well I just don't like the idea of velcro, I hate it. When I bought it I strapped it under my CB and amp (the amp is illegal too, just with the FCC), but this all is low enough already and the RD just makes it that much lower, it is too much.

Oh well, I am heading out to my shop right now. I will make me a nice custom built bracket and system and show some pics.

    TTYL,

Well, here is the update. I took a peice of aluminum which was a c.b antenna bracket which was unusually thin, which was a must. I have spent two hours heating and bending, walking back to the truck 60 ft and walking back to the torch and bench to heat and bend more.

I have one more bend to go at about 30 degrees and I think I will have a perfect bracket.

I got lucky with this bracket, it is roughly 20 percent the thickness of the usual c.b bracket. I found it lying around in the shop, never remember seeing it in the past.

Next question, not near as hard, is figuring out how to attach the aluminum to the bottom of the RD.

    Pics to follow

    Velcro? 2 sided tape?

G-morn'n - yeah, just rolled out of bed and I spent 30 minutes pondering the whole thing. I guess velcro is the best idea. I would really like to custom build a "hard solution." Kinda like taking the suction cup adapter and welding that to a peice of metal instead of having the cups. But, I am afraid I will have the weilder too hot for that thin metal. I also might could try "JB Weld" which is a liquid welding chemical, kinda like glue - but it is for metal. I just don't know yet.

Oh well, I am off to the shop in a couple hours. The next update will be pics of the finished product.

You mentioned in one of the other post that you would like to see my truck, you can get a good glimps of it at http://roostermafia.com.
