That, and you will hear a small snap when all the air is out from under the cups. Trust me, my x50 and friends rx-65 have no problems and have the same exact suction cups.
That is exactly correct. If you put them on when the windshield is hot (and clean) they pretty much stay on forever due to the explanation above. If you put them on when the windshield is cold they will surely fall off when it warms up.

Rub a small amount of Vaseline on the cups, works amazing. Perhaps too well, can't get 'em off later

thanks for the advice from all of you guys, but you have to understand that the cups are so bad now they will not stick even for one second.

i press as hard as I can and the cup just falls off imediantly. doesn't show one sign of suction at all.

my rx65 came with 4 suction cups and 2 of them don't stick at all. the other two stick but fall off after time. the ones that don't stick at all are how i described earlier. they are grainy to touch. also, they are not as clear as normal. they look more milky and not as transparent. maybe the heat did it or something.

when i let my car sit outside regardless if it is 110 out or 60 out i always crack my back windows about 1/4th an inch just to make sure the inside doesn't overheat. I don't want to destroy my rd. I doubt the head could affect the suction cups. Maybe I just got two bad ones?

    Come on, tryyy it

Anyway here is a good idea... put them in some hot water (say... 150 degrees F) and let them sit for a while. They should become nice and flexible and sticky once more. After it's cooled a bit, take them out, dry them off, smear a small amount of the Vaseline on them and go out to the car and try installing them.

Be careful when hiding the detector. I put mine in the glove box and laid the cups on something that distorted them and they would not work. I had to replace them. I have made one of these http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...ghlight=mirror so my suction cup worries are over.

i'm not to worried about that. i don't hide my rd. it is in the lower center of my window. I sometimes worry about a cop saying how it is an obstruction of my view or some bs like that, but they are legal here so I don't worry about hiding something that is legal. no worries on that.
