    No there is no other advantage then what you stated. It still scans the frequencies, but doesn't alert to them.

    Is it true that in CA it is illegal to mount anything on the windshield, like the suction cups for the rd? I saw a sticker on a Garmin GPS unit that said for CA it should be mounted on the dashboard.

    I suppose that a cop could ding you for that, if it's true, just for fun.

    A few states have laws like that... though rarely enforced. There are lots of 'odd' violations LEO's can nab you for... which they often dont.
