    Default Another autoscan Q

I know there is a thread on this, but I was using it the last few days on an older Bel 960 and was wondering this:

When in autoscan mode will you still get "slight blips" of instant on hits like Ka and K? or will they be filtered out?

When I was using City Low X it would filter the X band well, but not affect other bands, I would still get Blips of Ka and K.

Ok, anyone? We need some people in here that use Autoscan to test out my theory if it censors out "blip" Ka and K

No, Autoscan does not affect K or Ka sensitivity or response time. It won't affect how the unit responds to I/O at all.

This comes straight out of the STi owner's manual

    AutoScan Mode (AutoScan)
In this setting the STi DRIVER's internal computer continuously analyzes all incoming signals and intelligently filters out unwanted X and K-band false alarms from automatic door openers and motion sensors. Full sensitivity is maintained on all other bands

I run my unit in AutoScan and have good results. Just yesterday I was running 73 MPH in a 60 MPH and a LEO was running constant K band stationary around a bend in the Highway (off axis detection) and the STi picked it up .4 tenths of a mile, again with AutoScan on. Once I got around the bend I was running legal speed and the STi was going crazy!!

I don't believe autoscan effects K or Ka sensitivity on the 900 series Bel's.

Was that a misprint in the manual or whats up???? Sometimes I think there is a lot more going on than what Escort/ Bel says in their manuals. I feel that the manuals are mostly written for people on the Cobra user level. They should make a more copmrehensive manual available upon request 8)

No it isn't a misprint, that is what the manual states for the STi. But, the STi's filtering is different than the RX55, RX65, and 900 series.

I believe the STi is the only Bel RD that filters X and K in auto/city modes.

Yes, and I've read the review that The Veil Guy did on the STi, but I am not sure about his Ka performance increase theory in autoscan mode.

Maybe he can chime in, but my understanding is that he suggests autoscan reduces Ka false alarms, but increases detection performance to the legit Ka bands. Since the STi doesn't have USA mode it almost sounds like autoscan is like enabling a type of "USA mode" on the STi.

From The Veil Guy blog - http://veilguy.blogspot.com/search/label/STi%20Driver

"It appears that AutoScan mode effectively reduces sensitivity to both X-band and K-band by a very little bit and reduces sensitivity to non-police Ka-radar bands while not effecting reception performance to (at least) the three U.S. police radar Ka-bands (33.8Ghz, 34.7Ghz, and 35.5Ghz). To the contrary it appears that reception performance may actually increase (slightly) on those three police radar Ka-Bands relative to their Highway setting counterparts."

I've tested the IO theory and as far as I can tell the STi doesn't have a IO alert. I've also seen some video on youtube supporting this.

    Check this -
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=6hQII0taXu0

    And this -

As you can hear from the videos the STi just goes to full alert tone. No special IO alert is heard. Full ramp up and slowly it ramps down.
