(No Longer) Concerned 995 owner.

I'm pretty new here. Ive been reading all weekend and I'm concerned I may have made a bad purchase with my new 995.

A good friend of mine is selling his 2406 s7 Vector 940. He swears by it but is having money issues and is selling his "toy's". Of course he said I can give it try and is willing to sell it to me for $80.00.

I came to the m4 995 straight from the 966W. Perhaps my perception is off due to this.

What do you think guy's. Should I have done more research before jumping into a 995 m4? I did not have a clue about the horn designs prior to my purchase. I was fired up about the 995 but now, after reading all weekend, I'm concerned.

Well, I drove over to my buddys house and picked up his 940. I'll use it tomorrow to work and back. $80.00 is a huge difference from $269.00 for the 995. To be honest I'm hoping the 940 does not give the 995 a woppin'.

I think I have 2 day's to return the 995 if need be. Blows my mind that a newer Bel could possibly not be the better Bel.

He's says its a bit chatty. But the range is superb.

you my friend are paronide , Your 995 was a great purchase, but for much less $ you could have had the 940/955 that ave the Same detection range minus a few features that you prob wont use.

All of the current bellvector models now use the same M4 horn and all the current bells rank with the top detectors as shown in the latest 2007 tests.

Yeah maybe a little paranoid But I made that statement before I read all weekend long about the s7 vs. m4. I have an s7 to try a comparison with the m4 995. I never did see anything conclusive in your thread.

I think you may be right about the 940 being a better value. That's why I may just buy this 940 off my friend. I don't use the extra features and the price differential is huge. Since I came from the old 966W and did not find this forum until last week, I think my research was a bit lacking.

Will see tomorrow what this 940 is like. I have some good experience with the 995. I still have a few days to return my 995 but I think CC will smack me with a 15% restocking fee. Wish I knew of Roy before.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 940. Ive been running mine for over a year. "CC" did not nail me for the 15% fee for my 995 but from what I hear it's hit and miss. I'd use Roy but I'm so compulsive sometimes I can't wait for shipping

you could always say it's defective. i know bby has the 15% restock on radar detectors. always thought circuitcity was nicer. maybe they have a special clause for rd's since people tend to buy them for a long trip and then return them afterwards.

That said, either way, biting the bullet of the restock fee is probably fair. Personally, if I were to be spending that much on the 995, I'd look into the x50 for not much more, or maybe the sti/v1 depending on my usage.

but either way, if you prefer the 995 over your friend's 940 s7, you can still buy a new 940 m4 from an authorized dealer and save a ton of money vs the 995. Most circuit cities don't carry the 940 anymore from what I was told by someone at syracuse, but towards the end, they were selling them for real cheap.

Will see how it goes tomorrow. I agree with your post in the other 995 thread about folks being upset with the possibility of their new unit being slighty worse than an older unit. This concerns my wallet and I want the best bang for the buck. Even if it's a slight increase in range I'm in.

I have a good 2 hour interstate drive tomorrow. Some city driving as well.
I should be able to make a good comparison.

Funny. I go from a 995 fanatic, all excited about my upgrade to a skeptic in matter of a weekend. This forum is very educational. I thought I knew alot about detector's having used them since the 80's but apparently I was wrong.

Good thing there was alot of football on this weekend so I could sit with the laptop and absorb some material on here

Honestly, I have to thank gol and everyone else who did actual testing to show us the results. I remember years ago when I got the 7500s, and then returned it for the x50. Absolutely loved it. But had I known then that the 940 would perform at the same level, I might have returned the x50 and picked up the 940 to save some money. Then again, I had more to spend back then, and fwiw, I definitely liked every aspect of the x50 more than the bel 940. So ehhh. Money "wasted" on a feeling eh?

But at the end of the day, I'm still glad I have my 940. And I'm more glad I found out about it from here. Sure better than if I just spent $40 on a cobra and ran around with that.
