    Default Vector 995 Dark Mode

I was perusing the v995 manual today and saw it mentioned on Pg.9 that "If you prefer you can have the v995's display totally dark (See programming section)" Indicating instead of the discreet "HD" or "CD" it can be programmed to go completely dark. This is also mentioned in the troubleshooting section on Pg. 25 where it states "The v995 is in Dark Mode (pg.9)" for a "No Display" condition.

What am I missing here? I cannot for the life of me find a way to completely darken the display for dark mode. Is this a misprint? Perhaps the older version of the 995 could?

When you see "HD" ,"AD" or "CD" displayed on min. brightness in the left corner, that is Dark-mode.
There is no 100% Dark mode(blank display) and the alerts are not displayed, you'll have only audio alert.

Ive got that part, their implying in the manual that "if you prefer" you can go totally dark aside from the standard "hd" "cd". This has to be a misprint.

The STI can go totally dark can it not? I think theyve made an error here.

Oh well. Completely dark would be nice since the new Vector display is very bright, even on darkmode,

If you find a way to completely black the display please do post it. That's the most annoying thing to me about the 995. Even in dark mode it's pretty bright. Oh and the fact it doesn't have the optional "threat" display.

I know the X50 can. As far as I've seen, the 995 can't be done.

I guess you could always limo tint the thing

    Dark Mode

When you select the Dark mode with the BRT switch, RX65 changes to a very inconspicuous power-on indication: a very BRT AD, HD or CD. When RX65 is in the Dark mode, the display will not show visual alerts when it detects signals. Only the audible alert will tell you of detected signals.

IIRC, my old 745 STI would go into complete dark mode, but my RX65 does not.

Yep, this is the standard definition of darkmode. I understand it and use it regularly. Take a look at the v995 manual from Beltronics website. On pg.9 it refers to programming the v995 to go completely dark. They are clearly implying that the v995 can go completely dark where from what Ive seen it cannot. This has to be a misprint.

The "no display" reference on pg.25 I suppose references the lack of visual alerts.

I guess it's just my interpretation of pg.9.

    Hi LordVector,

Yeah, the manual can be interpreted as implying that the V995 can be set to be completely dark. That is not the case since, regardless, it will always display the current mode of operation although alerts will not be displayed. Search on my name and "STi" and "display" for my post about how to darken the brightness of the STi display. The same basic method applies, and it would be easy to do on your V995 since the display cover pops straight off the end of the radar detector case.

That's a slick mod MEM-TEK thanks, The brightness is a tad heavy for my tastes but I will probably leave it alone for now. I figured it was erroneus wording in the manual, I was kind of hoping I was missing something and you actually could completely shut the screen down. It should be an option as far as I am concerned.

Too bad ya can't have the best of both worlds.... the brightness of the rev 4.5 and older 995's and the loudness of the rev 6.xsss! The dimming on the older units is almost perfect, while the loudness on the new ones is almost perfect. Oh well.
