    Default STi Not Working?

So I was driving from Lafayette, LA to St. Paul, MN yesterday and my STi was working fine thru Arkansas, but then in Missouri, I noticed it got really quiet, for like 4 hours and even when I would pass thru strips will Walgreens doors ect, nothing. I turned it off then back on, got some Ka right after and I assumed it was back on track. I even put it on Hwy mode for extra sensitivity. Needless to say, I get pulled over in Iowa by a regular old K band radar and it didn't go off. The officer was even surprised. So this is going to cost me a good $200 thanks to the STi crapping out. I bought it direct in Aug '07 so it should still be under warranty. I know alot of people have said their cust service is weak, so any suggestions?

Well your options are limited, send it in and when you get it back test it against your local convience stores etc untill you have a good feel that it is working, or sell it.

If you do not need the stealth, one advantage that Escort have is the scanning dot display which in its little way shows the unit is "running", people have caught the display frozen and thus were aware of an abnormalty.

Belscort's customer service has vastly improved over the past several months now that they have a new CEO. Regardless, when calling them ask to speak to either Dan or David. They both actually are radar detector fanatics. Describe what happened and that your STi appears to be dead on K band. Your STi is still well within its warranty period. Bel will likely be willing to mail you a UPS shipping label, but you could ship your STi to Bel via USPS Priority Mail with $450 insurance and delivery confirmation for less than $10. Make sure that you boldly write your RMA number on the box.

not to be a dick but... why would you speed when u r not sure of the detector working right? should have taken it slow till you got it repired.

too bad to get a $200 ticket.

You do realize it's not your detectors fault you were speeding and got caught. It's not like a detector can hold a gun to your head and force you to speed.

I didn't even realize I was going that fast.... To my knowledge, I was set on cruise at 83. Im thinking of going to court for it, but I very well could have been going that fast and not realized it. I'm not complaining about the ticket, I'm pissed that it just stopped working.

I've noticed since it's gotten cold that my STi seems to need to warm up before it starts detecting at a decent range. Hopefully, Bel will fix it free of charge. That is where Valentine shines. Sometimes they will actually fix the V1 free when it's out of warranty.

Sorry to hear about your ticket. I have had my new STI for about a week, first one sent back for no alert to KA band. Feel that something is going on with this detector, it seems to work fine and then go blind to radar, however the new one I have has no problems yet. (0108) is the build date on the new one. Hard to trust this detector
