The other day with my friend open RX65 the HORN antennae consist of a cover secured by 4 screws. On the circuit board a potentionmeter for calibration using a miniature screwdriver turning clockwise or anti-clockwise. Pulled into a regular gas station and calibrate according to band ferquency. This is a trial & error maynot be accurate at least my RX65 does not display SERVICE REQUIRED. Still monitoring the sensivity and it does pick-up LASER and X & K band.

this is very interesting. Could you make a picture of the potentiometer from the rx. I have a bel980 that has problems similar to this..

That IS pretty interesting, I have always wanted to look at a unit that is displaying self cal so I could look into that...

ha.ha. my rx65 is almost back to normal save the cost of sending back to Bels for calibration. My trial & error paid off. No parts replacement just calibrate simply DIY. My rx65 pick-up signal the same area i was travelling it's as good as before. am not sure the bel980 is sharing the same horn antennae with rx65 just remove the cover there is only a potentionmeter for calibration is quite simple either just pull into the gast station which you are familiar with band X or K .Parked your car about 30 to 40 metres away from the AUTO DOOR of gas station turn on the detector power monitor the signal strength when picking up signal. I judge myself the signal strength should indicate about K1 to K2. you have to remove the horn antennae by pulling out and calibrate accordingly by turning clockwise increasing the signal strength to K4 to K5 for once it low volt display and self14 followed by service required. From here i decided to turn anti-clock wise the signal strrength bring down to about K1 and i knew that calibration may be right. Now the real test is to drive to the familiar places it does pick-up X, K bands and Laser along the way and is almost the identical in signal strength as before. So far yet to encounter KA band will keep posting.
PS: Am very upset Bels & ROY did not reply to my email regarding the calibration issue.

Honestly am not joking those who bought rx65 having selfcal, service required display if i can do it and I beleived if you can do it either am no technical man. my friend told me the frequency drift a little resulting calibration require. similar to a transistor radio tune to the correct frequency but the transmission is slightly distorted. Trust me save your money and simply DIY. Good lucks....

Please email me i will photo the horn antennae and potentionmeter for easy reference.

1. To remove 2 screws from the back cover (1) screw is concealed by the serial no sticker so need to peel off.
2. Thereafter pull out the LED display cover by using your delicate fingers
3. Remove the 3 screws that secure the horn antennae then pull outwards . Then take the horn antennae back cover by removing 4 screws.
4. There is only one pontentionmeter for calibration using a small miniature screwdriver for calibration.

Here's a question for those "in the know." If this repair is done for a particular k-band source is it more or less granted that Ka performance will be optimal as well?

If the RD uses a single LO, then the answer would be "yes". It's not a precise calibration but it's better than having it out of spec to the point where the RD doesn't work.

Doesn't BEL use different LOs for each band?
