    Default STI-R Dead :(

My Sti-R has essentially stopped alerting to radar with no service required message. I have reset it - dried it out in my garage and its basically deaf (alerts fine to my LA III).

The problem started a few days ago during some of the snow we have been getting every day. At first I thought that the receivor was covered in Ice as this has happened before, but the Sti-R would not alert to anything. No falses or any other radar that my Sti or 9500i would alert to.

It will alert to X band stop lights if I am literally within 10 feet of the unit. and this morning I came accross a LEO running C/O Ka where my Sti picked it up from over a mile away and the Sti-R alerted when I was about 20 feet from the car and it was an i/o alert.

I will have to spend a few hours tomorrow taking my dash and glovebox apart to get to the junction box and remove the receivor to send to Bel next week.

Just another reason to run 2 detectors.......The Sti is still my favorite detector, that one has rarely, if ever let me down in the last 3-4 years. Just wish I had gotten the service required message.

That blows! Good thing you are running two detectors.

I don't think these units are snow friendly

We'll soon find out. I'll be having mine installed in the next week or so.

me to but I think we'd be hearing about the same thing with the 9500ci since the antenna is identical

Meh, I'm getting an RMA tomorrow, guess it's a good thing I didn't get rid of the xtr-695, makes a good backup in the mean time.

Regardless of what your primary detector is, you should always have a backup. Even if it's an offline backup you can use while the primary is out for service.

    Any RD can crap out, whether it's a $1500 9500ci or a $30 Crapra.

The upside is that Belscort's service is good. I sent my Redline out when it started throwing "Service Required" and they fixed it within a couple days of receiving it. Unfortunately they put the wrong address on the box when they shipped it out and now someone else has my Redline. Check the tracking info when they ship back out, make sure the city/state matches your shipping address.

Welcome to the club. You will be one of the few Elantra owners with an STI-R.
