Looking to the future

People keep claiming that their RD is the best whether its the BelRX65, Escort X50, or the V1. I've been going to many reviews on sites to determine which one I would invest in. I'm currently in Georgia where RD's are not illegal so the Bel STi wasnt a main concern for me (not worth the extra moolah since performance is about same). Anyway, looking into the future, it is my understanding that the Bel RX65 is the latest released detector out of all the ones mentioned above (besides STi) so usually one would tend to pick that. It also has the Ku band and can be upgraded for later firmware versions. As far as laser, i'm pretty confident that the new AL6.5 will take away a need to detect laser since it will be jamming. This seems to eliminate the V1 since that was the main advantage above all the rest. This would leave either the X50 or the BelRX65. The X50 seems to be a great unit from what I hear and detects laser a little better than RX65 but as before mentioned, not a big concern. The Bel RX65 seems to be the way of the future since it has the new SMS thing and has better detection of radar (which would be the main concern of somebody who doesnt need to worry about radar as much). In other words, before this amazing AL6.5, the X50 seemed to be the way to go since it could detect radar a little better, but now the RX65 seems to be the way of the future since it has better radar band detection from what I've researched. I would also like to see more videos of the RX65. So.... let the comments start flying.

I own an X50, my sister owns an original 8500. Both very happy.

The RX65 has abysmally poor Ku performance. Simply horrid, so it shouldnt even be a factor. Also don't kid yourself with upgrades, Bel/Escort upgrades are for all practical purposes (compared to valentine) nonexistant.

If I was going to do it again? I'd probably get a V1.

I think the V1 needs a few little things and it would be absolutely perfect, though: Stealth like the STi, AutoMute like Bel/Escort. And maybe replace the retro looking display with an auto-dimming, large LCD panel

Its definitely an excellent laser detector but as far as radar goes.... I would think ur X50 or a RX65 would do better. Not to mention the V1 is just downright ugly.

Yeah the V1 is downright ugly. I think the STi is stylish but I dont like those three red buttons on the bottom.

If I was going to go between the X50 and RX65, the Guys of Lidar test shows them pretty close in performance.
Laser: X50 is better.
X and K is virtually identical between the X50 and RX65
Ka (35.5) X50 is better.
Ka (34.7 and 33.8) RX65 is better.

I'd say its a real tossup, but I'd get the X50. The X50 gives stronger alerts, the alerts ramp up much better and max out giving you a good idea of how close you are to a source of radar.

I'm curious where you got those statistics for the different bands. I'm looking for numbers to crunch (so to speak) but cant find any data with radar for bel vs. escort. Only laser seems to be the big deal and i've found plenty of data showing that escort is better. If only I could see something that shows the radar aspect instead of listening to what ppl say from their experiences.

I see the data now. Just to understand what I'm looking at, there are different "variances" of the same models? For instance on Ka band (red), whats the difference between RX65 USA (ES13Raven) and the (Compu44) one? Its the same thing right but one goes 500 feet more.

You mean, that particular RX65 had poor Ku performance. If GOL had tested several RX65s and they all performed similar, you could say that.

Mike B tested his RX65 for Ku, and it came out to -94 dBm. Not stellar, but enough to say that the RX65 at GOL which was tested for Ku probably had something wrong with it. :wink:

Where do you do most of your driving?

Which band does your city/area use?

RX65 seemed to do the best KA wise. Worst laser wise, but as you mentioned, AL6 will take care of that.

V1 is dominant and detecting laser. However, if you do most of your driving in the city, falses are a common thing (including laser falses).

Highway is a different story. The rear protection of the v1 and the arrows are great to have for the highway driver.
