It looks like the 07 Mercedes will have something called "Distronic Plus" cruise controll, a radar based system that runs on a K band freq. So now we have to watch out for new Mercs, Trailblazers, Infinitys, and that Audi suv. Couldnt they have used something out of police radar spec?

List of cars that use these systems taken form Wikipedia.

Toyota's Lexus vehicles were second to market with "DLCC" (Dynamic Laser Cruise Control). Other vehicles with adaptive cruise control include the Acura RL, Audi A6, Audi A8, Audi Q7, BMW 3 Series (called Active Cruise Control), BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Cadillac STS, Cadillac XLR, Honda Legend, Infiniti M, Infiniti Q45, Jaguar XK-R, Jaguar S, Lexus LS430/460, Lexus ES-350, Nissan Primera T-Spec Models (called Intelligent Cruise Control),Mercedes-Benz S-Class, E55 AMG, CLS, SL, CL, Range Rover Sport, Toyota Sienna XLE (limited availability), Toyota Avalon, Volkswagen Phaeton, Volkswagen Passat, Renault Vel Satis and Volvo S80. The system is available on most cars as an option for approx. 2000 usd/euro.

They may use FMCW that the top RDs will filter out. At least I hope so.
Some MBs also use a 77 GHz system in addition to the 24 GHz system. One is for close up, one is for long range.

The thing I read on the Merc said it was well within the police radar range and use of RD's would be impossible.

I cant post the link as it violates a MAJOR forum rule.

*Hopefully* they will have it on only the most expensive Mercs so we won't see that many of them. Just what we need, drones everywhere!

At least with the V1 arrows and bogey counter, in many situations you will be able pinpoint the source.

Hehe, use of most RD's would be impossibe. A V1, X50 and any other RD that has some sort of multi threat display should work(especially the V1 with the bogey lock). Then again, I could just turn off the K, since it's not used around where I live. Traveling to other places would be bad though :?

Then again, all of this could be solved by me not buying a Benz :P (Not like I could afford it  )

If this happens every RD user is going to be shutting off K band.
Every V1 user has the option of choosing the same maximum automute suppression to silence all eight LED's of regular K band volume like I am currently doing with drones.
What's nice about this is V1 users can still see the K band LED's if chosen and it is quicker to override rather than turning K band back on again simply by switching to (A) mode.
Give it a try, follow my after drone settings in front of a store and you can watch the V1 stay completely silent on K band until the thirty seconds run out.
logic mode to watch the muted volume LED's.
Advanced logic mode to see and hear nothing until the thirty seconds run out.

The Distronic is optional too. Can't be very cheap given that it uses two radar systems. It only applies a max. of 20% of braking power. I hope people who are buying MBs realize that they won't be able to use their RDs if they get that option. There are a considerable number of MBs with RDs too.

Is this the new technology that if you are in cruise control and your car gets too close to the car you are following, your car automatically slows down for you?

Is Mercedes the only manufacturer using the K band frequencies, or am I going to have to worry about all the other makes? ie Lexus/Toyota equipped cars.

I think there was another car maker (Infinity, Audi?) that had some sort of K band radar safety thing where it alerted if someone was in your blind spots, or something like that.

Seriously, if you can't tell that the car in front of you is braking, you shouldn't drive with cruise control  It may help people with seeing problems, but then again, I don't know if they should be driving....

BTW, it's a $2,800 option on the Mercs!

I agree, if you cannot adjust to traffic you probably should not be driving. But I think sometimes govt prefers to have more people driving so they have a larger revenue base. They view us primarily as a source of income!
