    Default Chevy Impala - fail

Well, I just spent the last few days behind the wheel of a 2010 Chevy Impala. Not impressed. My biggest gripe was the big 1 to 2 second lag when you floor the pedal while the computer analyzes the situation. I was on a short on-ramp in Oregon and needed speed now... and yelled at the car during the lag. It eventually lunges forward and does have a ton of power. Anyway - will never get anywhere near a newer Chevy.

Impala isn't necessarily what I'd consider a "newer Chevy." It may be a MY 2010 but the W-body has been in production since the oil that powers it.

I had a 1999 W-body Buick Century that did the same thing - GM makes the 4 speed think long and hard before it does anything, but when it does you're off to the races!

I'm sure if you "chip" it, the throttle lag will go away. It's the same way with the F150s: lagtastic throttle response. Stupid electronic throttle control.

I didn't quite qualify the original post... this was a rental car. I'm used to driving a lot of different cars but this one bugged me because of the lag....

    Drive-by-wire FTL!

Actually, my "newer" C6 has a drive-by-wire throttle and the throttle response is immediate. So don't paint all newer Chevys with the same brush.

I noticed the same, and mine was a Rental too.

Did you also notice that if you're in Neutral, the rev limiter stops the rev at 4000 ish RPM?

I wonder if the rental companies flash the ECU/ECM (whichever term is correct) with a slower, "dummy" settings.

It seems most autos I have driven lag too much when I push the pedal down. I'm just so used to response from a manual (whether my car has the power I want is another matter).

The worst Pedal lag I have ever experienced is my friends 2.7 liter dodge charger, not only is that thing horribly underpowered the pedal is like a 1-2 second lag time. Someone dropped the ball at Chysler.. a 2 ton car with only ~190 horsepower.....

My camaro is drive by wire as well, but my throttle response is fast. If we're talking about the speed at which the trans shifts (and shifts down) then a PCM reflash (HP Tuners) is your friend. Throw in a transgo shift kit and corvette servo and you have even more amazing shift speeds. My car right now shifts so quick at full throttle that the nose wont even dip. You're in the next gear as fast as you can blink.

This is normal behaviour in neutral/park on many late model GM cars, my Camaro does the same thing. Not sure why you need to rev over 4k in neutral or park. I believe this can also be tuned via hp tuners.

Heh, I noticed this too... no neutral drops in the rentals... ;-)
