    Default No reverse

Hey guys today I went to back out of my drive way with my dodge colt and realized that I could not back up. I would step on the gas and it would just not go. It would make a noise as like you would be steping on the break and gas at the same time. Is there any way I will be able to fix my tranny with out having to buy a new one or is my tranny shot? When I put it in drive it works fine.

    Automatic?

When was the last time you pressed the brake and the gas simultaneously?

    Was it cold outside?

Often with ancient GM trannies, the reverse gear requires higher line pressure than any forward gear. As a result, when the seals in the tranny get worn, and pressure goes down (especially when it's cold) reverse won't work or will slip badly. After a long time, then the forward gears start disappearing too.

Like on my pickup, in the dead of winter, like -20 C or something, start it up reverse won't work, nor forward gears. Let it warm up for 5 minutes and it works great. At -10 C a little slip in reverse that's it. At 0 C it is fine. Once it's going I can tow big trailers with cars on them no slippage whatsoever. I have a new Turbo-400 sitting in the garage waiting.

Did this just happen or what?

Can you move forward? Does it slip when moving forward?

Just an aside - are your brakes seized? Had the LR brake seize totally solid on my 900 Turbo after it was parked for a few months. I was able to drive the car, but the wheel was just seized and dragging. I dug a trench all round the yard
