yeah they will focus on tail light and numberplate or any reflective surface, sometimes when i shoot the rear of a car i will pan the rear if i cant get a lock on the tail light or plate.

as for laser shield....see here I remember this vid, laser shield is only apparently effective when used with a jammer;
