If you do it legal and make it look legal. Depends where the blue lights are! If they are on your bumper, heck no. But if they are turning around far away, do make a quick exit if there is time....![]()

Ive done it once before. The stress of the situation when you pull off to hide ALMOST makes it not worth it.
NOTE: What follows is a complete work of fiction. Any similarities to events that may have actually happened are pure coincidence. Oh, and im behind 7 proxies, so nyah!
I was on a 2 lane backroad late one sunday night heading home. No traffic, and id been in the car for 3 hours so i was just cruising. I didnt have a detector as mine had been stolen a few weeks before and i made the mistake of not thinking about police. I hit a straight stretch and just cruised along. 80 feels 40 in my car so i wasnt paying attention to the speedometer.
Saw a car way off at the end of the stretch so i turned my brights off as courtesy and kept cruising... As the car got closer im like "hmm, those likes kinda look like Crown Vic lights..."... but i keep cruising as LEOs are the last thing on my mind. Then as it gets a bit closer i think "those are crown vic head lights..." but still i keep cruising. Then as he gets about 300' away i think "oh schlapskie, cops drive crown vics...".
Then as he passed i see the familiar yellow flash of "SHERIFF" down the side of his car, in the RVM i see his brakes light up, tail of the car rise up and he cut it sideways to try and turn around on this tiny road.
I think, thats gonna take at least a 5 point turn, and as i didnt have a detector i never, and still hadnt slowed down. So i punched it, busted ass around a curve, was gonna pull into a small general store and hide in the lot as i knew there was no way he got make/model/ or plates on my car, but as i passed it, the parking lot was empty. Sunday night...damn. Keep going, im in rural KY, theres gotta be a side road somewhere. See a gas station thats open. No. Too predictable. But just after it i see a side road. Swing it into there, go 250' from the road- DEAD END. I picked the WRONG side road. I turned around, turned the lights off, and waited. Heart was pounding.
If he finds me what do i do? I think, ill just tell him i got lost and pulled off 20 mins ago to try and figure out where i was using my phone and google maps. That way it couldnt have been me he passed. I sit there for 15 mins, parked outside 2 trailers and across from some apartment building. I wonder if the people who live there would maybe call in that a suspicious car is sitting outside their house. That really starts to worry me, so i figure its been long enough, i put the car in gear and ease towards the main road again. I'd turned my foglights off so that the light cluster on the front of my car looked different (just in case he noticed that).
Just as im about to reach the STOP sign an older model police car pulls onto the road. I about pissed myself. But i think, its a completely different cop, his lights arent on, and if i just stare straight ahead, and act like nothings wrong, itll all be good. He's probably just patrolling anyway. He passes me, pulls into the adjacent apartment complex, and stops. I dont know if he ever turned around, because once i turned onto the main road, i was GONE. Went a half mile, turned onto another backroad that WASNT a dead end this time, and found a back way around this little rural town, using Trapster, that linked back up to the main road a bit later.
If itd been a highway or the interstate i would've stopped. Too many police, and cant outrun a radio. But i liked my chances on a curvy backroad i knew well in my BMW over a crown vic that had to turn around, and start from 0 to catch me out in BFE Kentucky. The idea of a ticket for 80+ in a 55 wasn't very appealing to me either.
It wasnt some idea that id thought about before. It was what seemed like the best course of action in the heat of the moment. I knew id been clocked, but i also knew i had the upper hand in this situation.
