Default WHY HAS ESCORT NOT MADE UPGRADES USB??

Why has escort/bel not made upgrades upgradeable offline via there website...through usb cables how easy would that be just plug in and update the newest software...? Seems to me that they are just being money grubbers and greedy? Because USB connector technology seems to be everywhere know days and it is realitivly small you can do it via digital camera or even better yet no cables required via jump drive// or same idea as a sd card like a digital camera ?? They just don't seem to be to suffisticated...?? If somebody like me can think of this why can't they?? I don't have any degree its just common sense it would be alot user freindly although they would loose alot of money which must be the reason to sit on there hands.

Making money is the name of the game. No one is in radar detector business to break even. It is all about making money for Belscort and this is why the user can't upgrade it.

In another aspect...a good idea for Belscort would make what you are talking about but charge 35 to 50 dollars or something to download it from their site. But then you got P2P sharing and so on. It just isn't worth it to them. They make more money the way it is now

    Default ya

Ya but it sure would be nice for us the consumer as to not have to be without a detector etc.. Maybe if they pulled a napster and made it like a yearly subscription thing to there website for like tops like 20 bucks a year it would worth it... And file sharing from that would be kind of more difficult and not as prevalant as like mp3's dvd's i would be more likely to upgrade rather than get a v1 if they did such a thing with there technology the drive smart can do this why can't they ??? Are they incompatent??

Free software upgrades would not be that bad. For example, people aren't going to buy a new X50 to get 6.1 over their 5.0. Passport would pose no harm to themselves if they provided firmware revision updates to us.

They could still come out with new products with major updates and hardware changes.

It would be nice if we had more control over our detectors through a computer, like add Ku band, enable/disable SWS and stuff like that.

On my X50 box they claim that you can "upgrade the software" but of course we all know you can't even do that. False Advertising.

Maybe i should just get a v1 screw belscort mine is acting up already anyhow.... and ive only had it like 2 months 3 months im just stuck get the bel sti i want the undetectability because it has the 3 year warrenty or the v1 that doesn't have as meany of these issues and from the sounds of it they have made quite a bit cheaper to upgrade and it seems more dependable you don't really hear of as many problems with the v1 .... hmmm debating debating....

I've talked about this before. I'm a huge proponent of allowing user upgrading.

Do I think it's due to the money they bring? In part. But I think in larger part that Belscort and VR are just behind the times. Back in the day when they designed these things there was no such thing as USB and user updating. The little scam of updating was perfectly reasonable as the factory *had* to do this operation.

Now in 2006, it's ridiculously primitive. But the detectors just aren't up to date in their inherent technology. And these guys, in my opinion, are largely sitting on their laurels, especially VR (sorry. I think the V1 is a great detector, but it's a dinosaur in many ways... and the Belscort models aren't far behind in their place on the modern technology list.)

And the thought of either of these manufacturers building in user-updatability and then charging to download an update? Fuuggetabout it. To charge me for firmware upgrades is ridiculous. I don't do it with my other modern software hardware/software, and I'm not interested in doing it for these guys. (e.g. Garmin GPS, my PCs, etc.) I pay you a lot of money for your product. Now support me!!!

It's no longer an easily defended business model. It will only take one to break with the pack and then all will follow. The question is who of the big two will be the first to crawl into the 21st century.
