9500i - Things to look forward to vs. V1

I just don't understand this "no more false alerts" thing people talk about.
I have NEVER received a false alert on any of my detectors. I do NOT consider the detecting of door openers or Cobras sending out radar waves as "false alerts". These are RADAR detectors, not POLICE detectors. I do look forward to being able to lock out the few door openers in my city, but I certainly have no complaint with the V1 or any other detector picking up those door openers. If they DIDN'T detect them, then I WOULD be peed off. The V1 is my most sensitive detector and I am glad it has that sensitivity. It's not a detector I use around trown, but on the open road it becomes a valuable item.

X2. I have said that about "false" alerts over and over. If people dont get it now, then no amount of exlpanation will ever be sufficient.

I plan on getting the 9500i, but waiting a while to make sure there are no major bugs to be worked out (V1 3.851+ "E" errors anyone?).

After owning a Whistler Pro58, RX65 Pro, X50 and currently using a V1 - here are the things I am looking forward to:

1. No more false alerts in the City - the major reason for getting the 9500i 8)
2. No more laser false alerts from: Neon signs, Trailblazers, Envoys, Infinities etc.
3. Having the SpecDisplay again. Maybe not 100% accurate but a cool feature anyway.
4. Auto mute!!! I really miss the automute functionality.
5. 280 LEDs. It was way cool to have this display.
6. Intelligent volume control. One more thing that can be done automatically for you.
7. Improved voice alerts. The voice feature on the RX65 was nice to have and sounds like it has been improved with this female version.
8. Autosensitivity. Didn't really do much on the X50 or RX65 but this new version sounds like a nice feature as well.
9. No more Ka falses or POP falses.
10. Distinguishable band ID. The V1 has them too close and the same color LEDs
10. No more J'd out alerts - possibly J'ing out a real threat.

Here are the things I am not looking forward to:

1. No arrows. Though not 100% accurate, this is the main reason I use a V1.
2. No K band muting. I really like the K band muting feature of the V1. Weak K band signals can be shown but not heard unless they break 4/8 strength.
3. No auto-dimming. I really like this feature as well.
4. No muted volume control. Its nice to be able to control the muted volume separate from the main volume.
5. Heavy. The RX65 and X50 are noticeably heavier than the V1.
6. No upgrades. Kind of cool that the V1 can be upgraded for a price.

Well, I can tell you that it's well worth it if your wanting to virtually get rid of falses. So there really wouldn't be any need for the K band muting feature if you utilize the lock out feature on the 9500. The 9500 has a auto dim feature that, to me, seems better than the V1.. Also, the 9500 is supposed to support updates to software from your home computer once the software is available ( From what I have heard from Escort and the manual)....The weight is comparable to the X50 and V1. Maybe in between the 2..I highly suggest the detector and so does everyone else that have it...To me, the V1 is over hyped and the quality is no longer there. I have sent my V1 in a total of 4 times...Not worth the $400 price tag for something that isn't reliable...

I HIGHLY disagree with you. I have owned a V1 since 1995. I have owned a few X50's, a couple of RX65's, and a couple of STI's and I had to send one of each back for repair (service required and self cal). I only had to send one V1 back once and it ended up being fine.

It sounds unbiased to me i never had to send my V1 for repair yet...and happya$$ has owned all the whats what of top radar detectors.

Yeah, but people buy radar detectors to detect police radar, not radar signals that are not coming from a LEO. :roll:

Most people consider non-LEO radar as a false alert - not false radar.

And there is the problem in a nutshell. Police radar is on the SAME frequencies as door openers. So you CAN'T fault a radar detector for telling you it is picking up a RADAR SIGNAL used by police. Would you prefer the detector NOT pick up radar signals on the door opener frequencies??? Then you would have "most people" griping like crazy about lack of detection when they get a ticket.

Bingo !!!! Houston we have no problem you are clear for launch. Point proven. Its a shame that as Michael B said, I think, that door openers are "in band" meaning that they fall within the police band but as I said blame the door opener not the RD.

Pick it up - yes. Report it as police radar - no. This is exactly what the GPS Lockout capabilities of the 9500i is designed to do, which is why there will be several V1 owners switching to it.

Now if someone could combine the arrows & GPS lockout... :wink:

Well the technology just isn't there to differentiate between police and door openers. So the 9500i will be ahead in that way as far as marking locations. But I doubt the 9500i will have the sensitivity of the V1. I guess you could call the V1 the "thinking man's radar detector", since it actually requires the user to decide whether the alert is a threat or not. So I don't think there will be a mass exodus of V1 owners to the 9500i.

If most of the alerts people want to lock out using the GPS are on X band- and if X band is not used in your area, just turn off X band. A GPS isnt required for that.

No, the V1 will still be the king of the open highways, but if the GPS lockout feature works as advertised - the 9500i will be the king of City driving.

I don't think there will be a mass exodus of V1 owners to the 9500i.

I think you will be surprised how many V1 owners set aside their arrows for the GPS lockout and other features.
