Default This is D-Day for my X50! - Hardwiring Help needed please

OK - I know there are a million posts lurking around for hardwiring, but I have read most everyone I can find and still have some questions. I just got this shipment in the mail today and am really anxious to attempt and install myself, but don't want to ruin any wiring.

PLEASE HELP - I know there are some smart radar detector people in this forum, so any info ASAP will help.

Also, not hardwiring related, but it feels funny to me not clicking like the Charger cord>

Thanks for any info you can give to me.

I think I read your post correctly. To get the wire from the hardwire into the blue crimp connector you will have to cut the blade connector off the end of the hardwire. Then strip the insulation about 1/4 of the way up the newly cut end. Place it in the connector and crimp how the other end was crimped. There will only be one wire inside of the one you circled so just cur straight through.

As for the module, the mute button works just like the cig lighter button.

I think that is all you asked, if I left something out let me know. Make sure you have a good stripping/crimping tool if you dont already, a razor blade and pliers is not a good shortcut to do. I have learned the hard way, by toastin the radio in my old jeep, that good crimp connection covered with heatshrink or, at a minimum, electricians tape.

yes cut the part that you highlighted in green, that connector can go off, take the frshly cut lead, strip it a bit, insert into the open end of the red connector, and crimp down like te red arrow spot except on the other side

THANKS A TON TO EVERYONE who has helped me learn and helped with the install of my radar detector.

I successfully hardwired my x50 in my 2002 Honda Accord today. Stripping the wire was scary, as was the crimping, since I don't really know what I am doing with electrical stuff. I grounded the ground wire to a bolt that I found. I used the Turn Signal fuse to add it on with the Add-A-Fuse.

Here are some pics to show people my experience:

The wire coming out of the top, going into the A Pillar (which accidentally popped off, but worked out perfectly).>

Bottom of the A Pillar; wire going down to the fuse box area in the crack.

I just opened up a dummy switch area, and the Mute Button device fits PERFECTLY into this. No velcro or glue needed, just pressure between the plastics. This is the new Mute Button. The button now works and clicks. At first my device was a defect, but Radar Roy was good about it and shipped out a new unit to me quickly. I'm going to see how badly the green light is at this angle at night. I may have to tinker with it or put tape over it. We'll see. I think this works though and is out of the way.

This is for Orbital - if my memory serves me correct. The level was key.

    Final setup>
I had to move it to the left of my previous position a bit, because I noticed that that the RVM mount was slightly blocking the front of the x50. I think this will be better though, because it is still out of my line of vision mostly, yet is closer/easier for me to glance at if I need to.

Any questions let me know. I think the wiring part took me 25 minutes to do, and I think getting all the wires setup how I wanted took about an hour. Overall- this was much easier than I thought it was going to be.

    Excellent install !!!!!

Since you used that one section for your SmartBox, you may be interested in doing this. Have a look at what this one Audi owner did, he used that switch option location to mount his Smart Box.

Here is the link of how he did it........

    Very nice, unhwildcat!

Now that you've got your protection "up and running," when you have more time, you can tackle the more advanced cosmetic measures that Orbital posted up for your reference! [/b]

    good work............... see easy, right

all the prettines is nice, but you could also be like me, I chose function over form.......... all my boxes are out and in the open, the RD one so that I can see it, and the G-meter one so that I can click it with a flick of the finger from where my hand usually rests (on the E-brake handle)

hey guys. thanks for the input. I think it turned out ok. also thanks for the encouragement for the hardwire install myself. I don't think I would have ever touched it if people didn't tell me I could do it.

I have seen that audi site though, but my Honda dummy switch panels are much too small to even attempt anything like that. the back side of the panels have a ton of groved plastic on them, and barely leave roome for anything like the audi install. It is literally impossible for me to do that type of install. I'll post some more pics soon of other angles of the install, but so far I like it>

the green power light is on, however my iPod blocks the green light, however does not block the red alert light, so it seem to be working perfectly. I think it was a sick install overall. I tested it tonight and liked it. stay tuned to pics to come.

Also, Arashi- please post pics of yours so I know what you mean.
