False Laser Alert

I had this lady following me in her Lexus(while picking her nose the whole time I might add) and my rear shifter kept alerting over and over again. Any ideas? This was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic, so it couldn't be cruise control, could it? I figured it was some kind of laser braking system.

Sorry for the poor video quality. I took it with my phone and I have bad aim over my shoulder.

Search "Lexus" or "Infiniti" here on the Forums, you'll get a lot of hits with good information.

The problem here is triggering of our Shifters (and also other jammers - and even some detectors) by laser parking-assist, cruise control, or active "pre"-safety devices that are on these vehicles.

This is quite common.

Yep, the laser cruise control part in the laser CC is always on, regardless of cruise control usage, or not. Kinda sucks. :?

Actually, laser cruise control on the toyota/lexus is not always on. You can choose if you want regular cruise control or with laser cruise control. :wink:

So this might also happen if someone has those rear sensors on their car for parking? I'll try this out tonight with a GMC Denalli and Cadillac.

I'm not sure if they use laser or ultrasonic technology for parking sensors. I know my toyota's parking sensors are on all the time but does not trigger my V1 or my X50.

Most of the GM ones I've seen, use ultrasonic sensors. They don't seem to set off my detectors. Of course the GM's also have those LED brake lights.... ;-)

New to the site...

I have been getting a series of "False" alerts with my 8500 x50. I've been trying to pay attention to the specific conditions when it occurs to see if there is some common factor (location, time of day, driving conditions, driving mode, etc.). The only things approaching consistent factors I've been able to come up with are really pretty inconsistent. But of that list it seems like passing (it comes on right at the point of initial full-throttle, quite un-nerving).

I've looked around for similar or the same cars around when it happens thinking specifically of newer cars and the various Laser systems they might be equipped with. I had thought it might be construction lasers but discovered that this is not the general case when I passed a road construction site with its laser level being actively used to measure a new roadway.

So, what am I asking (or what is the point of this post)?

How prevalent are these Laser Cruise Control systems?
What Cars have them?
Are there any other sources of laser signals that might be causing "falses"? (Like Laser based door sensors or other such devices that might form a base of fixed point sources like the existing X and K band door sensors one finds in the city.)
