man, that is a lucky break.

like you said gunning it before the officer turns around, i also keep track of the turn around areas when im on the highway. one time i used one to my advantage to beat a hefty ticket.

i was cruising down the highway doing 20+ over the psl at night comming home from work. not a car in sight so i figure im fine. well, comming around the next corner i see an officer comming aound the bend on the other side of traffic and i knew i was nabbed. he still had 1/4 mile to the next turn around after the curve, and i had the end of the curve comming up with a turn around there as well. i doused my lights braked hard and hit the turn around myself, get to the other side and nail it to get to 70. just as i hit speed with both headlights and fog lights on now, i see him comming at me with lights flashing, blows by me going the other way. fun thing is i hit the same turn around he used, and saw him sitting in a median facing me 10 miles up the road. i knew he didnt get a look at my car so i went psl right by him and laughed as i wiped a cold sweat away. needless to say i didnt speed the rest of the way home. mind you this is before i got my v1 so i was just prey waiting to be caught

    Default Insane

That's insane, I don't think I'd go to that extreme to avoid a ticket, at least not any more, I probably would have done something like that when I was younger for sure though. You can't drive ticket risk free and not know where those turn arounds are, if they aren't using them to come up behind you they use them to set in and stalk.

I have thought about wiring a switch into my vehicles to turn off my brake lights, for multiple reasons. In the car and work van so sops don't see that I'm hitting my brakes when they try to nail me. In my 4X4 so when I'm off road in the desert I don't become visible for a hundred miles away, not that I'd be doing anything illegal, just that sometimes you don't want to attract unwanted attention, or sometimes you do catch yourself in the unavoidable position of having to cross some land you either shouldn't be on, or don't have permission to be on, brake lights make what would otherwise be unnoticed noticeable for a long ways off.

An additional reason I thought about doing this was for anti theft security. I figure if I turn the brake lights off with a switch each time I park a vehicle and someone was to steal it they'd be driving around with no brake lights and a cop would be certain to stop them.

The only down side of course would be forgetting to turn them on myself, but I'm usually pretty good about remembering details. I mean I've never taken off in my car and forgot to start it first.

I had an interesting observation take place today that I couldn't wait to get here and mention.

It was a scenario where it looks like a suspected POP false positive was detected.

I was in the city slowing down for a red light when all of a sudden POP displayed on my detector. Just then I see two city cops both side by side coming around a turn at the same time head on toward me. The POP alert continued to display. Our city police here use always on Ka, and as the light turned green and they were passing me I could see both had their dash mounted radar on. It would seem from that situation having two of them with constant on Ka side by side like that and coming around a turn caused the 9500i to read a POP alert. I've never had 2 cops side by side coming at me like that before so it was what I'd consider a rare situation, but still thought it was interesting how it displayed as a POP rather than Ka ramping up as they came around the turn toward me.

Either way, had I not of been stopping for the light it would have still amounted to a save regardless of what my detector was displaying, but I still thought this was interesting.
