8500 X50: Why turn off X band? Use "City NO x" m

A brief delay on paired X band signals (1/10-1/2sec?). I don’t know if they did K as well like the 9500I and some Bells do?

I guess whats confusing me is without the GPS to detect vehicle speed, how does it know one way or the other when it should switch between Highway or City for a 9500i like Auto Mode?

I just can't see how that could possibly work at all, seems more like some type of marketing BS than an actual working feature that does anything.

Is it some how measuring how fast the received signal strength increases in intensity then using this time to guesstimate what the speed must be?

I too thought it was Belscorts marketing BS when i picked up the Bel last year, and I would always switch between Highway and City NoX. I started using AutoScan later and found that it works quite well. On the highway it gives great range and in the city it is fairly quiet yet picks up LEOs well. Once in a while a x-band alert comes through in Auto but they only last couple seconds then gets filtered out.
