Default Question about the 9500ix updates

I'm debating on ordering the 9500ix this week on payday, but I've read what seems to be some conflicting info about the update system. If I buy a 9500ix now will I have to pay the 100+$ update later around August?

It would seem that this simply cannot be, as I really don't want to pay 500$ for a detector and then pay another 125$ or so in a month just to 'update' it to make it compatible.

From what I could gather it was the 9500i and 9500ci that were to be updated to the 9500ix for the 125$ fee, correct?

Like I said, I just want to a pay one-time fee for the new detector and not some extra amount later on, which then I'd rather just wait until after August and buy the latest 'version' of the 9500ix.

    Anyone care to enlighten me?

Oh and now time to find someone to buy my V1 and x50!

Yes, the fee is only to upgrade a 9500I to an ix. When you buy the ix you have all you need (see below what ix has over 9500I)

The ix comes with updated software and all the features below. When and if there is new ix software you will be able to upload it at no charge for now.

There is a fee for the 1 Year Trinity Database Subscription Download:
Safety camera, red light and speed camera locations once a month for $19.95, and a 3 Year Database Subscription for $29.95.

If you buy an ix you will get:

Some new features the ix has over the 9500i:

    AutoLearn
The AutoLearn feature analyzes (over time) the source of radar signals by location and frequency. The ix automatically locks out this source at this particular location. The ix will also UnLearn signals to
protect you from locking out real threats. If a particular signal is no longer present at a location that was previously locked out, PASSPORT will unlock that signal.

    AutoPower
This feature automatically turns ix off if the vehicle has not moved for 4 hours.

    Software Updates
The ix’s red light andspeeddatabase and operating software is easily updated using Escorts web site. Firmware, for the detector, can also be updated using these tools.

The following are alert distances for marked locations:
    • Red Light Cameras = 250’ or 10 seconds
    • Speed Cameras = 250’ or 10 seconds
    • Speed Traps = 1/3 mile
    • Other = 1/3 mile

Nice, looks like I'll be more than likely ordering it this Thursday.

As a computer geek, I have so many cables it is ridiculous, including the mini-USB one. Actually, my Bluetooth headphones came with one of those since it uses that to charge.

However, I will have to go out and get the AC to +12VDC adapter (which is sold where? ).

Auto learn is the best feature on any radar detector EVER.

So much that if the performance can almost match the V1, then my 3.813 will have to go on eBay.

Talking iX, just got it last week.

I got my iX last week. I am really enjoying this thing. The problem is that I’m watching the gas gage just zooming by. Oh well. Auto learn is very interesting. The first day I drove down a road that has a couple of speed warnings as well as a speed camera smack dab in the middle. The speed warnings are about one mile apart. I drove past them three times and on the third time they were marked by Auto Learn. The Red light camera was brought to my attention within 100’ in the first two runs. After the third run and the positions were marked I was getting a 400’, 300’, 200’ 100’ and then “You have reached your marked location” told me that I was at the intersection that had a speed camera up and running. I think I love this thing. One thing that I have found is that every once in awhile it will mark a location in Auto Learn on the first pass. I’m not sure what is happening here, if somebody has an answer I would appreciate the input. Another thing that I’m interested in is that I have read the post that mentions a trick regarding marking a false location by turning the unit off approximately 500’ past the known false after it has been marked. By doing so, if I have this right, this process zeros in on the false and allows for detection of possible real threats in the very near vicinity. My question is how does this information mesh with the “Auto Learn” feature? Does auto learn record a larger area that may at a later date allow an additional hidden threat to pass detection? I must add that on the same run, after Auto Learn marked the locations of the speed warning systems I received another K band warning near the marked known false threat, which would suggest that Auto learn may be smarter that I had anticipated. I will be interested in seeing other comments regarding this feature. In addition I have tried all three modes, Meter, Specdisplay and Expertmeter. All three are interesting, I have been running Expertmeter. The gas gage keeps dropping. I have to say that so far I am glad I made this purchase, with all of these functions I think I will live without the arrows, who cares where they are, if I get a signal I’m ready to slow down.

Good to here your success with the ix! I don't have an ix so i haven't been able to test out any tricks with it. I'm going to assume that "Auto Learn" would require a hole different set of trick, if any at all, in comparison the the 9500I.

Logically if a unit is turned off it can no longer "Auto Learn" lock outs. However it is un known what it can do to the just lockd out area. I would just trust "Auto Learn" for now, it seems pretty smart.
