    Question 9500ix Weekly Updates

Since I am relatively new to this detector, I would like to know if you think it is worth it to install the weekly updates if your state isn't part of the lineup?

The main reason why I'm not doing it is because where I live there are a lot of red light cameras and I am more than conditioned to there location. Because I truly try not to push red lights and I don't want to listen to the warnings all of the time for these locations I have unmarked them.

My understanding from Escort Support is that if you do the update, they will be remarked. Is it worth it to run the update if your state isn't part of it??

I find that the easiest way to handle the updates is only to install the ones that involve my state or ones in which I may be driving through.

Every few months, if there are no such applicable updates, I may install the latest in my spare time just to have the unit completely updated.

I did not understand the comment on "remarking".

I think that I might have to agree with your input. I just want to be certain that I won't be missing any important firmware updates. I believe they will release hardware updates seperately, but I want to be certain.

My remarking I mean that when I do an update all of the notification locations that I had previously unmarked, i.e. the red light cameras, will be "re-marked" and added back into the database. Is this clear as mud now??

That definitely is the case...if you run the most current update it contains all of the previous updates as well.

Firmware updates are completely seperate. Only the notification of availability will use the same method (i.e. email).

Still not sure I understand the unmark/remark question.

On the Escort provided RLC's, I cannot unmark mine. I can only unmark ones that I personally added.

When I update the DB, it does not erase any of my added marks. On the other hand, if I added a mark then unmarked it, then updated the DB, it does not remark my previously deleted marks.

I don't know if I answered your question.

I think once a month is good to update.
