Weekly updates on Escort database!

Just got this email from Escort
:
"We've all heard the news: local city budgets are struggling to make ends meet so more and more municipalities are ramping up the number of "Safety Camera" locations. To make sure our customers are driving with the most updated database of Safety Camera locations, we are now offering weekly updates for our Passport 9500ix and Passport 9500ci detectors. Starting today, you can expect a fresh database every Monday. Below we will tell you which states made changes, so that you can determine if you need to update your detector. We appreciate your continued support of Escort Radar!"

Don't know if I want to spend all my Monday's programming my two units, but it may be beneficial to some if this is true. I like how "Safety Camera" takes on the meaning of both "speed cams" and "red light cams." Someone at Escort is going to be mighty busy.

I don't see how they can update WEEKLY... with new locations... The past couple of databases were almost the same size.... maybe 1 new location or 2... but I don't know if cities on a budget will set up a new one WEEKLY..lol.. but hey at least hopefully we are covered..

I don't know about their compression scheme, but their files do seem awfully small for all the data they contain. This recent update of 1-19-2009 seems to add something occurring in 5 states worthy of mention from their email. Puzzling.

The files are highly compressed ... both 7zip and WinRAR actually make a slightly bigger file when trying to compress it.
