I think a lot of people turn POP off simply because they can. We have a lot of techno-geeks here who have a compulsion to tinker with things, and feel the need to micromanage everything, whether it really needs it or not. People want to feel in control, and they get a feeling of superior accomplishment by doing it "better" than the manufacturer did it.
I suppose there are a very few people who are getting several heart-stopping Ka falses a day from Cobras that actually realise a positive benefit from turning POP off. And more power to them. But I suspect the majority are accomplishing absolutely nothing by doing so.
Or they know that POP isn't used at all in their area (everything around here is Kustom/Decatur/Stalker, no MPH at all) so there's no point in having POP on.
POP off = fewer falses, and no change in legitimate alerts. There's no reason NOT to turn POP off, unless you know POP is used where you are driving.

POP on with my RX65 results in many Ka falses and decreases the range by about 10%. POP is staying off.
I'll take my chances with the POP guns![]()
