Default 9500ix vs. Redline in AZ

    Hey guys,

I'm torn between these two detectors. I like the GPS features in the 9500 and I'd love to have a quiet detector w/ essentially no falses...BUT, we've got so much mobile photo radar here (low power, vertically polarized) that the speedcam database will never pick up.
If I'm not mistaken, Radar Roy said in his video review that the Redline outperformed the V1 by about 100 ft in most instances...and then he went on to say that the V1 only picked up the photo vans about 100 ft out...which means the Redline was only picking it up 200 feet out. That's <2 seconds at highway speeds.
Was that the intent of his review (to indicate only 200 ft of warning) or was he just saying that 100 ft doesn't sound like much, but it is?
At any rate, wondering if anyone has experience w/ distances on the 9500ix and the photo vans.

    thanks guys

Sounds like the Redline should be your best bet against the photo vans, if thats what you are worried about.

From what I have heard about the low-powered K-band photo vans, every extra bit of sensitivity will be needed.

My 9500ix isn't bad against K-band, but it's not as good as my V1. If the Redline is better than the V1 with K-band, that would be my choice against those K-band vans.

If you have to worry about fixed position cameras, a C100 or something like it woud be in order.

All the Photo Vans in AZ have signs posted @ 1 mile and also 1/2 mile away to give you warning. If you go with a redline, you will lose all your fixed speed cam warnings not to mention losing all of your truelock locations. I would keep the 9500ix and rely on the" Photo enforcement zone ahead" signs to alert you to the mobile photo vans. The slight gain in extra sensativity of the Redline is not worth losing truelock locations, fixed speed photo locations, and redlight cam locations IMO.

I think a C100 can handle the fixed speed photo locations, and redlight cam locations.

True, but the Redline will be noisy around town on all the k-band automatic doors. The extra sensativity on k-band without gps truelock is gonna get old quick IMO, especially after having a quiet detector like the 9500ix.

I don't think OP has either detector yet and he doesn't know what it's like to have a 9500ix.

    Buy both and return one.

    X2.

When picking a detector for yourself and your driving areas and driving style, it's best to actually try out which detectors interest you and settle on which one best fits your needs.
