You know when was in highschool I wanted an eclipse cd player for my car. Granted that was 20 years ago so they were hard to find. I ordered one for a heck of a price out of the back of a magazine. Got what was ordered and worked great for a week. Then I had a problem. Called the company and they said send it back and well have it looked at. It was gone a month, then two, then three!

Wha't my point? You guys say oh I can save $10 by ordering it off ebay or wherever. But when you have a problem you will be saying "why didn't I order from Roy?" Yes I made the ebay mistake once too. Never again.

I spoke with Chad from Bel today, and he says that they do not usually swap out a detector that needs repair for a new one and that 99% of the units that come in are repaired and sent back to the owners.

He said that the units on EBay might be stolen and that Bel has people that try and track these people down.

His EBay page boasts a "3 year exchange warranty" and the units are "Brand New, Factory Sealed" and "We do not sell any refurbished or used units, all of our products are 100 percent brand new, with the latest upgrades" etc.

I told him that I knew an Escort/Beltronics authorized dealer, and he said these prices are below his wholesale prices and the units can't be brand new. I asked if his units were actually re-manufactured, refurbished, 2nds or grey market. He responded:
it depends, i get my units from many different sources some times i get my hands on new items, while most of the time i sell refurbished items, so i guess the answer to your question is that most of these units are refurbs. but they work just like new and if there is a problem with it i will exchange it for another one.
    Funny...

The same seller now changed his EBay pages and took out the parts about the units being 100% brand new and not refurbished.

I wonder if he saw this thread...

I think he heard about Charlie Wenzel. For those who don't know, go to the Back Alley and click the link in the "Oh My God!" thread.

Wenzel's a class-A tool who advertised some gears as brand new (or, rather, "bran new") and sold them to a guy for $100, cashed his check, then decided he wanted more money and tried to sell them again for $125 *on the same forum*. What followed was the greatest ownage in Internet history.

I think this guy saw what happened there, and how thoroughly the forum members were able to penetrate the "wall of security" the Internet provides and get themselves involved in his day-to-day life until he sent back the gears, sent the guy's money back, and apoligized.

I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if the Wenzel affair changes person-to-person Internet commerce forever, and this guy didn't want to be on the wrong end of another angry customer with some very supportive friends.

This is an old thread but I wanted to chip in my $.02

I bought a RX-65 off eBay before I knew any better but it came with a "dealer provided" 1 year warranty .... same as provided by Bel-Tronics so I felt protected. It looked like & was packaged the same as the RX-65 I just bought from Roy, came with the 2 yr extended warranty card & valid serial #. When I called Bel-Tronics to get the extended warranty they wouldn't honor it 'cause the vendor was not approved.

Within 2 months it was laser falsing constantly (in front of Home Depot, in my driveway) so I returned it for a free replacement .... still cool.

The replacement RX-65 eventually gave me the dread "service required" message at the 11 month mark & the dealer gave me another RX-65...still cool.

Now for the crap. My 12 month warranty began with my original purchase and this "new" RX-65 (my third) would be covered only for one month. I left it unopened & sold it (unethical but I believe in "fool me once shame on you, fool my twice and shame on me") so I could buy a legit unit from Roy.

Check the location of the eBay vendors that bother to provide one & you'll see that most are in Florida. Why does Bel-Tronics put these refurbed units out there for resale if they're not going to warranty them?

Just a little piece of info for those of you who think a place like Best Buy will give you a better deal. I recently was in the car electronics area of the store and was just browsing and checking what detectors they were selling compared to the last time I was there. I was shocked to see that they no longer offer an extended waranty on any of their radar detectors. Just another reason to buy from Roy and Roy only!

Yeah, I was surprised too. Gave me a false sense of security with the "12 month" warranty but it was obvious the guy was sticking me with the last RX-65 being warrantied for one month.

I'm in a better place now & the RX-65 I bought from Roy doen't seem to false as much on POP but I do wish CITY mode provided for reduced K-band audio alerts. If CITY mode handled K-band audio alerts like it handes X-band audio alerts I'd be pleased.

What if the company says they are an authorized dealer, cause its not just individual people who sell on ebay, Stores like radarroys sell stuff on Ebay to expand their market place. I was just saying that so they dont edit my post I am trying to fair and realistic.
They dont protect the buyer from ****!
