    Default Considering a Redline

I've used the V1 for a little over ten years now and it's my only detector. It's great on the open road but can be a bit annoying in the city. I always wanted a backup detector and am narrowing my choices.

Will Escort ever release a concealed display for the Redline? If not, are the voice/audio alerts adequate with the display off? Also, can it be hardwired without using the CIG adaptor?

How well does the Redline deal with falses in a city environment? I see it's not GPS based but has Automute (whatever that is). I will still use the V1 on interstate travels as it really shines on the open road.

I love the arrows but again, haven't really tried anything else on the market. Would this be taking a step backward going with the Redline by not knowing where threats are coming from?

I've never dealt with anybody but Valentine. I feel their customer service is excellent and would rather not invest in a product if they can't stand behind it. How well does Escort handle issues and problems with the detector. Tune ups?

I am in the process of considering both, and I have to say that it woud be easier for me to lean towards Redline IF it wasnt for the hefty pricetag. Keeps me going back to V1 every time...

There is another thread in this forum that has good Redline vs. V1 info.

The redline is a great detector but it falses a lot too because it is very sensitive. For your case I'd get a 9500ci or get a 9500ix for the city and use the V1 on the highway.

You can't go wrong with V1 or the Redline.

X2, though the Redline will be more sensitive than the V1 that would defeat the purpose of having something new for the city environment.

Its ether V1 9500ci for the best combo or V1 9500ix for the best city highway changeable combo.

There is no interface for a concealed display on any Bel/Escort dashmount RD. You can still distinguish alerts with the display off. I rarely look at the display on mine. I only look it it for Ka alerts to read the frequency (I run in Spec mode).

Escort does offer a hardwire kit for its detectors, sold separately. You can get a regular one or a smartcord (which has the alert LED and mute button like the cig plug has).

It'll be at least as chatty as the V1 if not moreso due to off-axis sensitivity. Auto mode helps a lot though. Auto NoX will eliminate X band alerts while in town. Automute just reduces the volume of the alert tone after about 5 seconds; it's nice to have in town. On the V1 I'm constantly reaching for the mute button.

Escort has good customer service. Probably not quite as good as VR's, but when my Redline started giving "Service Required" they took care of it for me. And when UPS "lost" the package when it was sent back to me Escort sent me another Redline (which I sent back because my repaired one did finally get delivered).

Since you have a V1 already and are considering the Redline as a backup, the V1 and Redline are among the few combinations of detectors that work well together in the same car. So you can run both to get the advantages of both. V1 for arrows, rear sensitivity and bogey counter; Redline for off-axis and Ka 35.5 performance.

The Redline in Auto mode is quieter in town than a V1 in L mode.
